Liberty Looking for Upset in Rematch with Sioux City

Liberty-Bandits-Apr9-01The Salina Liberty will be looking for another home upset this week in a rematch with the defending CIF league champion Sioux City Bandits (5-2).

When Salina, 2-4, last played in the friendly confines of the Salina Bicentennial Center, they upset Dodge City. The Liberty will look to do the same in a matchup with the Northern Division leading Bandits.

When these teams first met on April 2nd in Sioux City, the Bandits came out on top, 46-20. Despite forcing three turnovers, the Liberty offense was never able to get into a rhythm and was kept off the scoreboard entirely in the second half.

Salina is also looking to bounce back from a tough loss last week at Amarillo. The Liberty looked to be headed to the endzone for a potential game winning score, but a late fumble by Zach McClain was just enough for the Venom to seal the game.

Liberty quarterback Derek Racette was the bright spot for Salina in the loss to Amarillo. He threw for a career high 251 yards and five touchdowns. Ed Smith also came up big for Salina. He caught seven passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns.

One key factor in this game could be Sioux City quarterback Anthony J. Graham. Graham has thrown eight interceptions on the season, including three in the previous meeting with the Liberty. The Salina defense has picked off a total of eleven passes thus far this season.

Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m. Saturday night at the Bicentennial Center. All the action can be heard on the official station for Salina Liberty football, KINA 910 AM & 94.5 FM, online on The Salina Post and also on the TuneIn Application, which is available for all Android and iOS mobile devices by simply searching ‘KINA’. Pregame begins at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday’s game will be preceeded by a Child Abuse Prevention Tailgate from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Bicentennial Center’s east parking lot. This free event will celebrate April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and will include free food, face painting, and bounce houses.
