The first annual Big Brothers Big Sisters of Salina Glow in the Park 5K run and 1 mile walk brought more than 1,000 runners and walkers to Oakdale Park Saturday night.

The event, which was emceed by 99KG’s Shane McClintock, featured a mascot dance off with mascots from the University of Kansas, Wichita State University, Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina Central High School, Salina South High School, Ell-Saline High School, Kansas Gas Service, the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, the Salina Liberty, Papa John’s Pizza, and others.

Participants in the run and walk were given free pizza from Papa John’s. A beer garden was also available.

A money machine was provided by Long McArthur Ford and exhibitions of karate and baton twirling were put on by Shinzenkan Dojo and Shannon’s Stars.

At the conclusion of the run, medals were handed out to all the participants and those with the fastest times were given awards.
