Police are hoping an elderly woman who lives in east Salina will be able to recover the $2,000 in cash she sent in the mail to Florida, after she had received a call Wednesday claiming she was a winner in the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.
Captain Mike Sweeney said police were contacted Thursday by a family member after the woman, who is in her late 80s, told them about the call.
Sweeney said police are working with the U.S. Postal Service in trying to prevent the money from getting to the Pompano Beach, Florida address the money was sent to.
