Four Hospitalized in Pair of Saturday Accidents

Four people were hospitalized as first responders were kept busy with two accidents on Saturday.

Salina Master Police Officer Rande Repp tells The Salina Post the first accident occurred just after 4 p.m. at the intersection of Ohio and Claflin.

In that accident, a white 2014 Ford Econoline van owned by USD 231, Gardner, and driven by David Diener, 28, of Olathe, was eastbound on Claflin and attempted to turn left on Ohio. Diener pulled in front of a black 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Barbara Kohart, 32, of Salina, that was southbound on Ohio, and the two vehicles collided.

Both vehicles had heavy damage and required towing.

Kohart and three of her minor children were transported by ambulance to Salina Regional Health Center by ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries. Diener was cited for failing to yield right-of-way.

Just over two hours later, just before 6:30 p.m., a three vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Cloud and Briarwood.

Repp said a white 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by Kay Hanchett, 57, of Salina, was pulling out of the Dillons parking lot on Cloud to west, while a green 2013 Subaru Forrester driven by Lisa Hanson, 51, of Salina, was pulling out of the Emmanuel Church parking lot, also to head west on Cloud. The two vehicles collided near the Dillons entrance.

After striking Hanchett’s van, Hanson’s vehicle exited the north curb line, drove over a grassy area, and struck a white 2008 Ford F-150 pickup truck owned by  David Fazel, 61, of Minneapolis, that was parked in the Dillons parking lot.

There were no injuries.

All three vehicles were towed from the scene.

Both Hanchett and Hanson were cited for inattentive driving, according to Repp.
