Kathy Griffin Performs at Stiefel Theatre Sunday

Kathy GriffinPMAn award winning comedian is coming to the Stiefel Theatre for the Performing Arts in downtown Salina.

Kathy Griffin will take the Stiefel stage at 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 22nd.

From The Wall Street Journal: “Kathy Griffin can’t turn off the funny. No matter how hard she tries—and why should she try?—her brain is always coming up with zinger after zinger. She’s been skewering celebrities and our culture’s obsession with fame for years, from “My Life on The D List” to her numerous comedy specials on Bravo to her gig at “Fashion Police.”

But to talk about Griffin as just a celebrity-targeting comedian would be reductive. She is a six-time Grammy nominee and one of only three women to win a Grammy for comedy album. Dig past all the celebrity gossip, and you see that Griffin’s humor is political and decidedly confrontational. She’s passionate about what she believes in and has no qualms fighting for it. Still, no matter how serious the topic, Griffin finds a way to turn it into a joke. She understands how comedy is often subtly subversive in disarming people and forcing them to see things in a different way.

“When I’m meeting fans backstage in the Bible Belt, it is not uncommon for a nice gentleman to come up to me, hug me, and say in a very excited way, ‘Hey, gurrl! You’re my favorite hilarious diva!’ And then introduce me to his wife Edna…who is a female,” she said. “Or, ‘Miss Griffin, I don’t think I’ve ever even met a gay person ‘til I sat in the audience of your show, but damn it was funny and everybody had a good time.’ To which I say, ‘Oh, I think you may have met some gay folks. Do you attend church?’ And then we take a selfie.”

OVER 400 GREAT TICKETS STILL OPEN!

Two-time Emmy and Grammy award-winning comedian Kathy Griffin is a towering figure on television, on tour and in publishing. She breaks through the entertainment clutter with her universally recognized brand of pull-no-punches comedy. In 2014, she made history with her 6th consecutive Grammy nomination and first win for Best Comedy Album (“Kathy Griffin: Calm Down Gurrl”), joining Whoopi Goldberg and Lily Tomlin as the only other female comedians to ever win Grammy awards for Best Comedy Album.

Kathy draws a huge audience to CNN’s New Year’s Eve special, which she has co-hosted with Anderson Cooper since 2007, beating Fox News in the coveted ratings demographic. She is one of television’s go-to hosts for premier live events. After co-hosting The Billboard Music Awards LIVE three years in a row, this year Kathy hosted the 41st annual Daytime Emmy Awards LIVE and AARP’s Movies for Grownups Gala.

Her boisterous and revealing memoir, Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin, debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times Bestseller List. Griffin won two Primetime Emmy Awards for her hit reality series, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, which aired for six years on Bravo. It was nominated every single year of its run.

Griffin’s other awards and honors include The Human Rights Campaign’s Ally for Equality, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America’s Leadership in Entertainment honor, GLAAD’s Vanguard award, The Trevor Life Award from the Trevor Project, and a Gracie Award for Outstanding Female Lead.
