A motorcycle rider was hospitalized after the bike he was riding was struck by a car in west Salina Wednesday afternoon.

Salina Police Officer Robert Bell tells The Salina Post at the scene that 51-year-old Fon David Pierce was riding his 2007 Harley Davidson Road King east in the 1200 block of West Crawford at about 4:15 p.m., when he was struck by a 1993 Ford Crown Victoria driven by 60-year-old Frederick Thayer, that had just pulled out of the Sunset Plaza parking lot.

Bell said Pierce, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken by ambulance to Salina Regional Health Center with severe injuries, including multiple leg fractures, abrasions and lacerations. He was later transferred to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in Wichita.

Thayer was not injured.

As of Thursday morning, the accident remained under investigation.
