After a high of 106 degrees which tied the record set in 1946 for Salina on Wednesday, strong thunderstorms bringing high winds, hail, heavy rain, and lightning moved across central Kansas into Wednesday evening.

There was a report of golf ball size hail near I-135 and K-140 just after 6 p.m. Gusty down burst winds knocked down tree limbs in east Salina. About 4 power poles were blown down along Woodward Road east of Salina, that caused power outages. There were reports of some street flooding in northeast Salina. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain was reported at the Salina Regional Airport, a half inch of rain fell in northwest Salina.

The National Weather Service in Wichita issued Flood Warning going into Thursday afternoon for Ellsworth, McPherson, and northern Rice Counties, where 2 to 3 inches of rain had fallen.

Nearly six inches of rain fell in the area around Halstead in Harvey County, where water rescues were reported and some cars were in water that covered the tops of the cars.

Triple digit heat is in the forecast for central Kansas Thursday through Monday.
