vet_ffffff3753360_fbsGerald “Jerry” Ivan Denison, 69, Minneapolis, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the Ottawa County Health Center. He was born June 6, 1947 in Salina to Harold and Florence (Walle) Denison.

Jerry was a graduate of Bennington High School and Brown Mackie College. He served in the United States Army from 1966 – 1972 . On April 3, 1971 he was united in marriage with Mary Ann Keller in Ellis. Jerry worked for SRS for many years. After his retirement he went to work at Hometown Hardware in downtown Minneapolis for twelve years; retiring on May 1, 2016. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and Clerk of the Session. Jerry was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 3201, former board member for Love, INC, former Minneapolis Mayor and, city councilman. For many years Jerry would go to Ellis and help the Keller’s with harvest.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Mary Ann on April 18, 2008.

Survivors include his sons Waylan Denison and Justin Denison and wife Ashlee; half-brother Darrell Yost and wife Patty; and granddaughters Kylee, Jordan, Macee, and Skylar Denison.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, Minneapolis. Burial with military honors will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis. Jerry’s request was instead of flowers he’d like memorials to be given to the First Presbyterian Church or Love, INC and may be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.

Cremation will take place and burial of his ashes will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 27, 2016 in the Jamestown Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Grandchildren Education Fund. There will be no visitation.

vet_ffffffRichard C. (Dick) Wyatt, Wichita, Kansas, died June 16, 2016, in Wichita. Dick was born March 4, 1924 in Sterling, Kansas, the son of Robert E. Wyatt and Nina M. Cuthbertson Wyatt. He had 2 brothers, Robert E. Wyatt and William M. Wyatt. He was a graduate of Sterling High School and attended Sterling College and the University of Kansas.He served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII with the Asiatic/Pacific Theater. He was recalled to the Navy Reserve Unit to serve in the Korean War. On April 5, 1947 he married Anna Lou (Annie) McAllaster. They had 2 sons, Ray E. Wyatt, Abilene, KS., and Rex A. Wyatt, now deceased.

Dick was President of Peoples Savings and Loan Association, Sterling, Kansas, until 1983. At that time, Peoples Savings merged with First Federal Savings and Loan Association, now Landmark National Bank, and Dick and Annie moved to Dodge City, Kansas, where Dick served as Senior Vice President and on the Board of Directors until his retirement.

Dick was involved in many activities. He was President of Midwest Savings Conference in 1962-63; served on Board of Directors of Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka which supervised the states of Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Nebraska from 1968 to 1972. He was president of the Kansas Savings and Loan League during the year 1975-1976. He served on the Board of the United Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America, a Director of the Dodge City Chamber of Commerce, a Director of the Rice County Development Corporation, & clerk of the public school district in Sterling for 18 years.

Dick had been active in the Presbyterian Church in Sterling. He was treasurer of 15 years and also served as a ruling elder on the Session. He was chairman of the building committee for the new church in Sterling, dedicated in 1971. After moving to Dodge City in 1983 he served the Presbyterian Church there as an elder, church treasurer and Trustee.

Active in Rotary since joining in January, 1948, he was a Paul Harris Fellow, and served as President of the Sterling and Dodge City, Kansas, Clubs, as well as a District Governor of Rotary District 5690. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Rotary International Golfing Fellowship and one of the organizers of the United States Golfing Fellowship of Rotary. He enjoyed golf, bridge and traveling with Annie.

He is survived by Annie, of the home, Ray, and wife Joan, of Abilene, Grandsons Tate, Tanner, Jeffery and Joshua, 5 Great-Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 24, 2016, at 1:30P.M., in Sterling, Kansas, at the United Presbyterian Church, 309 N. Broadway Ave. Memorials may be made to the Sterling College Athletic Department Scholarship Fund and sent in care of the Birzer Funeral Home, 203 N. 7th Street, Sterling, KS, 67554.

Hillsboro – Jerrod Paul Rogers, 25, died June 16, 2016 rural Hillsboro.  He was born May 21, 1991 in Hutchinson.  He married Jen Miller May 28, 2015 at Brighton, Colorado.  Survivors include: spouse, Jen Rogers of Hillsboro; parents, Mark and Nancy (Jost) Rogers of Rural Hillsboro; brother, Victor Rogers of Sublette, KS; sisters, Margaret Sweany of Senegal, West Africa, Rhonda Rogers of Hillsboro, Erica Eakers of Hillsboro.  Celebration of Life Service 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Ebenfeld M.B. 3753010James Bruce Stanton, 62, Morrowville, died Saturday, June 18, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. To 8 p.m., Thursday, June 23 at the Ward Funeral Home, Washington. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 24 at the Morrowville Christian Church, Morrowville.

Burial will be in the Morrowville Cemetery.

Jim was born November 8, 1953 in San Antonio, Texas, to Robert and Alice (Palmer) Stanton. He was raised in Morrowville and graduated from North Central High School in 1971. He then earned an Associate Degree from Cloud County Community College, Concordia. Jim worked in the chemical and fertilizer business from a very young age. He shared his passion for agriculture, teaching his sons both how to spray fertilizer. James worked for the family owned business, Stanton Farm Services until 1992, then continued his career with Garvey Grain in Ellinwood, Ks selling fertilizer and chemicals. In 1994, Jim took a position as location and agronomy department manager with Midway Co-op and relocated to Osborne, Ks. He eventually returned to Morrowville as owner/operator of Mill Creek Ag Services until his health limited him to a less intensive work as an associate with Walmart in the toy department. This still allowed him to do what he enjoyed most, working with the public.

Jim was a member of the Shriners, Lions Club, Kansas Ag Retailers Association, Kansas Fertilizer and Chemical Association and served on the USD# 221 School Board. Some of his favorite pastimes were watching television, the K-State Wildcats, KC Royals and NASCAR. He also liked to read and spend time with family and watching his grandchildren.

He was united in marriage to Deborah Zenger on February 14, 1987. She survives. Other survivors include his mother, Alice Stanton, Morrowville; sons Eric Stanton, Osborne, Brent (Brittany Talbot) Stanton, Fairbury, NE, Cody Stanton, Morrowville; daughters Tina Fischer (James Moore) Hutchinson, Ks, Stacey (Heath) Allen, Haddam, Chandra (Daniel) Schwab, Clifton; sisters Lynn (Bob) Allen, Haddam, Jennifer (Robert) Nutsch, Morrowville. Nine grandchildren, Rhiley Stanton, Madalyn Moore, Tristan, Triniti and Traven Allen, Caysen and Connor Stanton, Violaney and Aubrey Schwab.

Preceding in death was his father, Robert Stanton.

A memorial fund is established and will be designated at a later time. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.

Doug Shields, 75, of Lindsborg, passed away June 19, 2016.

He was born Marvin Douglas Shields on May 14, 1941, the son of Francis Marvin and Anna Virginia (Bjorn) Shields in Lindsborg, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Doug is survived by his wife, Patty Shields, son, Stephan Shields, daughter, Karina Van Walkeren (Phil), brother, Mike Shields (Darlene), sister, Janet Lagergren (Sherm), and grandchildren Christopher & Jacinda.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 25, at 10:30am at Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg.
