Salina, KS – The 15th Annual Saline County Back to School Fair will be held at Lakewood Middle School, 1135 Lakewood Circle, on this Friday, July 29th from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Schedule:
12 p.m. to 7 p.m. – Register and Pick-up Basic School Supplies
12 p.m. to 6 p.m. – K-12 Dental Screening, Cavity Prevention, provided by Salina Family Healthcare Center dental professionals.
4 to 6 p.m. – K-12 school/sports physicals by Salina Family Healthcare Center medical professionals
3 to 6 p.m. – activities, games, and refreshments
To be eligible to receive basic school supplies students must live in Saline County or be enrolled in a school in Saline County and qualify for free or reduced school lunches. Families will be asked to provide proof of income eligibility in the form of a letter stating they receive free or reduced school lunches “Some other basic information will be requested when picking up the school supplies,” said Marcia Demuth, Events Coordinator and steering committee member.
Salina Family Healthcare Center dental and medical professionals will conduct free dental screenings, cavity prevention, or vitamins for teeth, and school/sports physicals at no charge for students in Kindergarten to 12th grade. Deb Wood, Family Resource Management Agent and steering committee member reports, “Thirty area organizations and businesses will have interactive activities and provide information about activities for children/youth and family services that are available in our community.” This one-day event is free and open to the public.
In order to put on this annual one-day event, organizers depend on a very strong volunteer core. Help is needed with registration, packing and distribution of backpacks, prepping refreshments and much more. The Back to School Fair is funded each year by generous donations from individuals, organizations, churches, service clubs, businesses and foundations. The donations help fund the purchase of backpacks and basic school supplies for approximately 1800 income eligible Saline County Kindergarten to 12th graders.
