Salina – The Friends of the River Foundation and the City of Assaria both received grants to help clean up their communities. The Friends of the River Foundation received $6,558 to purchase equipment for Salina’s annual Fall-Fix Up and the City of Assaria received $2,000 to cover dumpster rental fees for residents to use to clean up private property. These grants are part of the Dane G. Hansen Foundation’s Community Clean-Up Initiative facilitated by the Greater Salina Community Foundation.
There are still $11,422 available in community clean-up grant funds for communities in Saline County. Applications will be accepted through June 1, 2017, and will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis.
The objectives of the clean-up grants are to beautify communities for current residents and to help with recruitment of new residents; eliminate financial barrier to clean-up projects such as land fill fees and equipment rental; and promote community pride and encourage volunteerism.
