3903126_wlppJoAnn (Jo) Mall 86 of Gallatin passed away Wednesday, August 24th at the Daviess County Nursing and Rehab. Gallatin, MO. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Clay Center, Kansas. Cremation under the direction of McWilliams Funeral Home.

JoAnn Mall was born October 29, 1929 in Clay Center, Kansas. Her parents were Luella Wolf Kendall Tripp and Floyd Kendall.

Jo and Firman Mall met when Firman came home after serving in the Navy during World War II. They were married June 6, 1948, and were blessed with one son Gene.

After Firman graduated from College the couple moved to Kansas City, KS where they lived for 32 years.

While they were living in Kansas City, KS, JO started college when she was 31 years old. She graduated from the University of Kansas and she taught in the primary grades 17 years; she loved teaching the “little Guys.” Jo loved doing all kinds of handwork, quilting and painting. For several years she showed her crafts at craft shows. She also loved to play bridge.

Firman and Jo were blessed to have 67 years of marriage.

Jo leaves her son Gene Mall and wife Patty, also several in-laws, Roger Mall, Jacyln (Mall) Cochran, Lavila Mall and Darwin and Katie Mall.

Graveside Memorial services will take place at 10:00AM, Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, Kansas.

vet_ffffffMax E. Vass, 62, Minneapolis, died Sunday, September 25, 2016 at his home. He was born March 6, 1954 in Salina to Rex and Marthena Vass.

Max served in the United States Navy. In 1974, he was united in marriage with Katherine Crowl of Salina. Max was a former mail carrier and he most recently was a truck driver for Swift Trucking for 17 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Kathy; children Eric Vass, Jody Sammons, Dana Hoffman, and Cory Vass; brothers Larry and Lon; and three grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren.

There will be no services at this time.

mary-kittell-1474973651Kathryn Kittell, age 96, of Little River, Kansas, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016, at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home in Little River. She was born on January 13, 1920, to Jesse Snyder and Mae Alene (Tinnen) Wile, in Ravanna, Missouri. Kathryn lived and attended school in Windom, Kansas, graduating in 1937. She married Howard H. Kittell on January 6, 1943, and they raised two children.

Kathryn was a loving wife and mother, a gifted seamstress, and accomplished artist. She was a 50 year member of the McPherson Eastern Star Chapter and a member of the First Congregational Church. She was one of the kindest people you could know, making friends with everyone she met.

Kathryn and Howard retired in 1983 and spent several years traveling throughout the United States and Canada before settling in Weslaco, Texas. Kathryn remained in the Rio Grande Valley after Howard’s passing in 2001 until 2014, when she returned to Kansas.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband; two grandsons; her sisters, Marie Johnson, Juanita Wright, and Betty Lou Lindholm; and her two brothers, Billy Bob and Philip. She is survived by a son, Howard (Kit) Kittell and his wife, Theresa of Montrose, Colorado; a daughter, Kay Bechtel and her husband, Ken, of Overland Park, Kansas; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and her dear friend and companion, Charlie Kriewald, of Little River, Kansas.

A graveside service and inurnment will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, October 7, at McPherson Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to Sandstone Heights Nursing Home or a charity of the donor’s choice in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 N. Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.

Yvonne M. Talbot
(January 18, 1941 – September 23, 2016) 

Yvonne M. Talbot, 75, formerly of Linn, died Friday, September 23, 2016 at Overland Park, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 29, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Greenleaf.

Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, September 29 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Yvonne was born January 18, 1941 to Leroy and Matilda (Wurtz) Talbot at Greenleaf, KS. She graduated high school and attended Brown Mackey Business College in Topeka. Yvonne moved to California and worked as a stenographer. She was in an accident and disabled and returned home to live with her parents, before entering the nursing home in 1995.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and three brothers, Robert, Gene and Leon.

Survivors include brothers, Jerry (Wanda) Talbot, Endicott, NE, Jim (Margeurite) Talbot, Marysville, Raymond (Sheri) Talbot, Wichita; and sisters, Marilyn (Alvin) Brungardt, Washington, Kathleen Wilkes, Altus, OK, Laura Asp, Wichita Falls, TX and Margaret Talbot, Oxford, MS; along with several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Yvonne Talbot Memorial Fund to be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.

thumbnailvet_ffffffNels William Belleau, 88, Hill City, Kansas, passed away September 24, 2016 in Hill City, Kansas. Nels was born October 22, 1927 in Damar, Kansas, to William Joseph and Marilda (Brin) Belleau. Nels grew up in Bogue and attended Bogue schools. He was a high school graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy in Hays, Kansas. He served two years in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947. October 22, 1953 Nels was united in marriage to Frances Kaiser in Collyer, Kansas on his 26th birthday. Six sons were born to this union: Bill, Sam, Wayne, Rod, Brian and Tim. Frances and Nels celebrated over 62 years of marriage.

Nels was a lifelong farmer retiring in 1992. He was also very active in his community and the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He served on the Graham County Fair Board, designed belt buckles for the Graham County Rodeo, and was honored as the Grand Marshal for the Graham County Fair Parade. In 1989 he was inducted into the Kansas Fair Board Hall of Fame. Nels was a member of the Co-op Board, the ASCS Committee and the FHA County Committee. Nels served on the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Council during the construction of the new church building, and was a 4th Degree Knight. He was a member of the Hill City Elks Lodge

Nels was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Ida Bernatt; and brothers-in-law Frank Bernatt and H. Jack Webb. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Frances of Hill City; sons: Bill (Sherry) of Hill City; Sam (Mona) of Norman, Oklahoma; Wayne (Laurie) of Hill City; Rod of Hill City; Brian (Lori) of Berryton, Kansas; Tim (Jeanette) of Hill City; 12 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren; and one sister Alvena Webb of Medford, Oregon.
