The Salina Fire Department has announced three promotions within the department.
Kirk Stover has been promoted to the position of Captain.
Stover joined the Salina Fire Department on July 1, 1998 as a Firefighter/EMT-I/D. He was promoted to Fire Engineer in 2004, then to Fire Lieutenant in 2011. He has served on many committees and teams including the SOG committee, the Planning and Improvement Team, and the regional HAZMAT and Incident Management Teams.
In his new position, Capt. Stover will be responsible not only for the management of his apparatus, but also a station and all of its Fire Department personnel in one of Salina’s four response areas.
Jame Simpson has been promoted to the position of Fire Lieutenant.
Simpson joined the Salina Fire Department on August 18, 2005 as a Firefighter/EMT. He has been a member of the Technical Rescue team since its inception in 2007, and is also a member of the HAZMAT Team. Jame was promoted to Fire Engineer in July of 2010. Jame earned his Associates Degree in Fire Science from Hutchinson Community College in 2015.
In his new position, Lt. Simpson will function as a company level officer. He will be responsible for the supervision of personnel assigned to his apparatus and duties include the training of his crew, fire prevention activities, fire suppression and EMS service delivery to meet the department’s mission to: Respond Quickly, Perform Professionally, Be Caring and Compassionate to All, and finally, (to make sure) Everyone Goes Home.
Sam Hoskins has been promoted to the position of Fire Engineer.
Hoskins joined the Salina Fire Department on August 15, 2005 as a Firefighter/EMT. After being hired, he attended Barton County Community College, where he graduated with an Associates of Applied Science in Emergency Medical Services – Paramedic. He was promoted to a Paramedic in 2011. In 2013, Hoskins was again promoted, this time to Paramedic II.
In his newest position, Hoskins will be responsible for driving, maintaining equipment, and operating the various fire apparatus in the Salina Fire Department fleet.
