UPDATE: One man was hospitalized after a shooting in a south Salina neighborhood late Wednesday night.

Salina Police Captain Mike Sweeney said 24-year-old Rachad Austin was standing on the front porch at 3209 Royal at about 10:15 p.m., when an unknown male individual fired multiple shots at him.

Austin then pulled out a gun and returned fire at the suspect, who fled the area on foot.

Sweeney said Austin was struck by one of the bullets in his upper torso. He was taken by ambulance to Salina Regional Health Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The home was also struck by gunfire, but none of the occupants inside the home were hit.

As of Thursday morning, there have been no arrests in the case and the suspect remains at large.

Police were still at the scene Thursday morning as the investigation into the shooting continued, according to Sweeney.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Salina Police Department at 785-826-7210.
