A motorcycle rider was arrested after leading officers on a short pursuit in south Salina Sunday afternoon.
Salina Police Captain Mike Sweeney said an officer on patrol on observed 19-year-old Chance Katzenmeier standing on the seat of his Kawasaki motorcycle in the 2200 block of S. 9th just before 4 p.m.
The officer attempted to stop Katzenmeier at the intersection of 9th and Magnolia, but he sped away.
Sweeney said Katzenmeier turned into the lot of the Mid-State Plaza, 2450 S. 9th, and drove the motorcycle toward Marshalls at speeds in excess of 60 miles per hour.
He then headed toward Kohl’s, 2580 S. 9th, and lost control of the motorcycle while attempting to pop a wheelie behind the store. He was able to regain control of the bike and proceeded south behind Buffalo Wild Wings, when he then jumped a curb and continued east into the parking lot at Office Max.
Sweeney said that while attempting to slow down, Katzenmeier struck a Kia Optima owned by 21-year-old Erika Doty of Ottawa, causing minor damage. He then accelerated to a higher speed into the parking lot at Aldi, 2660 Planet, then turned back north out of that lot.
Katzenmeier then ran a stop sign near Longhorn Steakhouse, 2590 S. 9th, and continued north, eventually speeding throught the parking lot at Dillons, 2350 Planet, and turned west onto Saturn Avenue. The pursuit was then discontinued.
Officers located and arrested Katzenmeier a short time later at Salina Regional Health Center, where he was being treated for a dislocated shoulder.
He was booked into the Saline County Jail on several requested charges including flee and elude, failure to stop at an accident and reckless driving, according to Sweeney.
