vet_ffffffmit61010Frank Archer Mitchell, 98, of Salina, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2016. He was born Nov. 26, 1917, in Waldo, the son of Dr. John C. Mitchell and Etta (Archer) Mitchell.

He graduated from Waldo high school in 1934. He attended Kansas University and graduated from UMKC School of Dentistry in 1940. He was a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon honorary fraternity. Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 as a dental officer. He was a division dental surgeon with the 88th infantry in Greenland and Italy, among other places. He was discharged as a major in 1946. After the war, he moved to Salina and apprenticed with Dr. Needles to become an orthodontist. He was a practicing orthodontist in Salina until he retired in 1983.

Frank married Marjorie J. Scidmore on April 9, 1949. They were married for 64 years, until her passing in 2013.

He was a member of the Southwestern Society of Orthodontists, Kansas Dental Society, Salina Dental Society, 50-year member of Salina Kawanis Club and First United Methodist Church. His favorite activities were being with his grandchildren, checking the family farms, and the camaraderie of various coffee clubs and Thummel Auctions.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; his brother, Dr. John Mitchell; and a sister, Ruth Oleary.

He is survived by son, Dr. Mark Mitchell (Kathi), of Salina; and daughter, Mary Ann Morris (Jay), of Lawrence; and grandchildren, Cassandra Mitchell, of Boston, Scott Mitchell, of Rochester, Minn., Marisa Mitchell, of Oxford, England, Brian Morris, of Lawrence, and Sean Morris, of Lawrence.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at First United Methodist Church, Salina.

Memorials are suggested to Presbyterian Manor or the church.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Monday, October 17 at the McDonald Funeral Home, followed by burial in Jewell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 PM with family present from 2-4 PM Sunday, October 16 at the funeral home. Memorials have not yet been determined.

vet_ffffffJack Dunn, 89, of Clay Center died October 12, 2016 at the Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center. He was born September 11, 1927 in Clay Center the son of Henry and Martha (McMahan) Dunn.

Jack graduated from CCCHS. He married Elizabeth Lloyd on May 14, 1951 and she survives. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Jack worked for the Clay County Highway Department and Hutchinson/Mayrath as a welder until his retirement. He later worked for the City of Clay Center mowing grass at Greenwood Cemetery. He was a member of the Hebron Reformed Presbyterian Church. John is preceded by his parents, one brother and three sisters.

vet_ffffffgregory-smith-jpegGregory Scott “Greg” Smith, 58, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 5:00 a.m., Saturday, October 8th, unexpectedly, at McPherson Health And Rehab.

Gregory was born in Lyons, Kansas on March 8, 1958, a son of Barbara Ann (Phillips) and Larry D. Smith.

Greg attended Washington grade school, Park school, McPherson Junior High and McPherson High school, graduating in 1976.

He was a member of First Christian Church McPherson, Kansas.

Greg was in the U.S. Air Force.

Greg enjoyed sports and enjoyed spending time at the YMCA with many friends. He loved the Green Bay Packers.

Greg is survived by his father, Larry D. Smith, of McPherson, Kansas; his mother, Barbara Ann Smith, of Valdosta, Georgia; his siblings, Larry D. Smith and his wife Tonya, of Valdosta, Georgia, Lisa L. Prickett, of McPherson, Kansas, and Darren Smith and his wife Terri, of Valdosta, Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.

The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, October 17, 2016 at the Glidden – Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating.

anton-kriks-photovet_ffffffAnton (Tony) Kriks was born February 9, 1924, in Kaptol, Yugoslavia, to Johan and Maria Kriks. He had four brothers and one sister. He passed away on October 8, 2016 at Belleville Health Care Center, Belleville, KS at the age of 92 years.

During World War II, Yugoslavia was occupied by Germany and his family fled to Austria. Tony first worked in a stove factory, and in 1947, at an American Air Force Ordinance Center.

Tony married Margret Weiland in 1946, and in 1952 they immigrated to the United States with three children under the auspices of Church World Services. They settled in Belleville where Tony was employed by car dealerships as a body repairman for 42 years, retiring at age 70.

After the death of his first wife he married Gloria (Hall) Canfield in 1969, and later, Doris Blackburn in 1980.

A significant event in Tony’s life occurred in 1947 when he accepted the Lord as his Savior. He was an active member and leader in the Crossroads Assembly of God Church in Belleville and enjoyed engaging others in lively spiritual conversations. Tony loved working in his garden and sharing the fruits of his labors. He also found great pleasure in woodworking, helping others, and traveling with his wife.

Tony is survived by his wife, Doris, of the home; Albert Kriks (Carol), Pickrell, NE; Hilda Herron (Terry), Broken Arrow, OK; Erna Fabert (Steve), Topeka, KS; Herbert Kriks (Nancy), Hinckley, OH; Debbie Revelle (Roger), Olathe, KS; John Kriks (Michelle), Shawnee, KS; four step-children: Michael Blackburn (Lucinda), Wichita, KS; Patrick Blackburn (Shirley), Peyton, CO; Kathleen Stencel (David), Lincoln, NE; Timothy Blackburn (Brenda), Lakin, KS; 21 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

Tony, a man well loved, and surely a life well lived.

Funeral services will be held Two PM, Saturday, October 15, 2016, Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel, Belleville, KS, conducted by, Pastor Rick Snodgrass.

Interment will be in Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, Kansas.

thumbnailLillian Florence (Morgan) Frazey passed away on Monday, October 10, 2016 at the Sheridan County Health Complex in Hoxie, Kansas at the age of 93. She was born on September 29, 1923 in Hoxie to the late Harley and Clara (Field) Morgan. She grew up and attended school in Hoxie graduating from Sheridan Community High School with the Class of 1941. On July 26, 1942 she was united in marriage to Forrest E. Frazey in the Methodist Parsonage Church in Colby, Kansas.

Lillian was a lifelong member of the Hoxie community. From being a Den Mother when her sons were in Cub Scouts and a Girl Scout leader when her daughter was in Girl Scouts, to serving as Sheridan County Register of Deeds, her love of family, friends, and neighbors never grew weary. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and sang in the Church Choir. Her passion for music, especially violin and piano, led her to teach neighborhood kids as well as her own to play.

Together, Lillian and Forrest were avid bird watchers. There are many fond memories of time spent with their children and grandchildren testing them on acquired bird knowledge. In her later years, she enjoyed watching basketball on TV and became a Wheel of Fortune expert.

Lillian is survived by her husband Forrest Edward Frazey of Hoxie; sons Lynn Frazey and wife Sandra of Bellingham, WA, and Gary Frazey and wife Carole of Owasso, OK; daughter Clara Lou Spillman and husband Dennis of Hoxie; daughter-in-law Linda Frazey of Hoxie; sister Doris Bunting of Greeley, CO; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great- grandchildren.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents Harley and Clara Morgan, son Tim Doren Frazey, brother Leo Morgan, and sisters Esther Welty, Edith Jamison, and Ella Ewer.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 13, 2016, at 2:00 P.M., at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 from 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. and on Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 9:00 A.M. until service time, all at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie, KS.

Downs, KS—Michael Urban Slater was born April 9, 1956 in Smith Center, Kansas  to Urban F.  and Sarah “Lillian” (Paget) Slater.  Mike departed this life on October 9, 2016 in Downs, at 60 years of age.

Mike attended Downs Public Schools.  He loved fishing and working on cars.

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and a great nephew.

Mike is survived by a son, Michael Urban Slater, Jr., Russell; grandson, Severin Oden Slater of Russell , sisters, Sharon Smith & Brenda Slater both of Beloit ; brother, David (Linda) Slater of Jasper, CO.,  and numerous nieces and nephews.
