Accident Knocks Out Power to More Than 2,500

A single vehicle accident late Friday night put more than 2,500 Westar customers in the dark.

The accident, which occurred just before midnight, happened near the Bicentennial Center entrance at Midway and Kenwood Park Drive.

A blue passenger vehicle struck a power pole near the intersection and then struck a concrete guard rail just north of the intersection.

The driver walked away uninjured.

As of 1 a.m. Saturday, Westar Energy was reporting 2,523 power outages across the city.

Traffic in the area was closed while crews worked to clear the scene.

Westar Energy said power was restored to all customers by 2 a.m.
