October 13, 2016.
He was a retired farmer and salesman.
He was born July 29, 1921 at Scandia, KS the son of
Carl D. and Nellie A. (Falk) Larson.
United in marriage to Agnes M. Olson on April 29, 1945.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Elaine
Woodson; and sister Mildred Boyer.
He is survived his wife, Agnes Larson of Belleville, KS; one
son, James E. (Carol) Larson of Thermopolis, Wyoming; two
daughters, Mary Nell (Joe) DeBlois of Portland, Oregon, and
Ruth Ann (David) Nice of Pullman,Washington; 3 grandchildren,
and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services: 10 AM Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the
Ada Lutheran Church, rural Courtland, KS. with inurnment
to follow at the Ada Lutheran Cemetery.
Cremation was selected. Friends may sign the book from
1 PM until 8 PM on Monday at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral
Home, Belleville, KS where the family will receive friends from
6PM until 8 PM.

Survivors include her parents; grandparents, Crissy and Terry DeGraw, Robert and Analucy, all of Salina, Katrina Roebuck, of Kansas City; great-grandparents, Jeff and Sindi Baird, of Solomon, Rae Ann Chavez of Salina, Rachel Rhodes and Viola Sprague; aunts and uncles, Taylor Heath, Katie and Eric Graves, Brittany DeGraw, Colton Chavez, Zachary DeGraw, all of Salina, Meaghan Susky of Clay Center, Jasmine Sprague and Bianca Roebuck, Antonio Gwenn and Romoni Sprague.

She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Steve Heath; great-grandparents, Alfonso Chavez III, Jeanette Chavez and Bob Sprague.

vet_ffffffGene Barnett, the son of Ben Barnett and Harriett (Krotz) Barnett, was born February 21, 1944 in rural Belleville, KS and passed away on October 14, 2016 in rural Belleville, KS at the age of 72 years, 7 months, and 23 days.
Gene grew up and attended rural school in Republic County and graduated from Belleville High School. He then served with the U. S. Navy for 4 years, working on aircraft carriers. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the area attended and graduated from N.C.K. Technical College at Beloit, KS.
Gene worked for BG Construction for many years and later for Solt Construction in Concordia, KS also. He also assisted and maintained the family farm.
On August 28, 1967, he was united in marriage to Ann Jeppesen and to this union was born: Linda, Jenny, and Darrel. The couple made their home in Concordia, KS.
Gene was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church. He enjoyed square dancing and was serving on the Board of the Kansas State Square Dance Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Darrel Barnett; daughter,
Jenny Barnett; step mother, Nettie Barnett; sister-in-law, Nancy Bohaty; and brother-in-law, Warren Jeppesen & wife Jo Ann.
Gene is survived by his wife Ann Barnett of Concordia, KS; one daughter
Linda (Phillip) Conyac of Stockton, KS; four grandchildren, Alyssa, Cayden, Emily, and Gage Conyac; daughter-in-law April Barnett of Concordia, KS; step-sister Ann Wamsely of Garfield, Arkansas; and brother-in-law, Walter Bohaty of Bellwood, NE; other relatives and many friends.
Cremation was selected and memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the Concordia Lutheran Church, Concordia, KS with Pastor Janai Robinson, officiating.
Inurnment services will be held at 2:30 PM Wednesday at the National Bohemian (Kopsa) Cemetery, rural Cuba,KS.

everett-johnson-pictureEverett L. Johnson, son of Joseph Johnson and Minnie Esther (Isaacson) Johnson was born May 26, 1927 at Scandia, Kansas and passed away on October 14, 2016 at McPherson, Kansas at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 18 days.
He graduated from Scandia High School. He was united in marriage to Gladys M. White on March 21, 1948 and to this union two children came to bless this home, Bryan and Shari.
Everett was a retired Grain Elevator owner and operater. He worked with the Robison’s Harvest crew after retirement. He was an avid Antique lover.
He is a member of the United Methodist Church, Scandia, KS., Scandia Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Minnie Johnson, wife, Gladys M. Johnson, one great grandson, Kaiden Jay Piersee, one half brother, Harold Johnson, two half sisters, Gladys Olson, Helen Johnson, sister in law, Louise Johnson.
He is survived by one son, Bryan Johnson of Kansas City, KS, one daughter, Shari (Doug) Cornelson of McPherson, KS., six grandchildren, Alisha Johnson (Galina Georgieva), Joseph Johnson, Nichole (Paul) Carver, Natasha (Dustin) Stubby, Megan Piersee (Cody Palecek), Kirstin Piersee (Adam Reed), nine great grandchildren, Kamryn, Jacob, Asher, Braxten, Orion, Hank, Harper, Frank, Boone.
One brother, Ric Johnson of Washington, KS., nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Scandia, KS.

Downs—Dr. Henry L. Buikstra, 94, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2016 in Beloit.  He was born March 11, 1922 in Jewell County, the son of Marten and Fanny (VandeRiet) Buikstra.

He was a retired dentist.

He is preceded in death by wives, Althea and Beth; daughter, Sarah; brother,  Bumill,  and sister, Alice Senti.

He is survived by daughters, Leah Buikstra of Downs, and Norah (Clark) Buisktra-Spoden of Nashville, a sister, Evelyn Bouma, and extended family of step children, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial Service will be Friday, October 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Downs.  There will be no visitation.  Memorials may be given to The Sarah Buikstra Memorial Scholarship Fund and the church.  Domoney Funeral Home, PO Box 127, Downs, KS 67437 in charge of arrangements.

A celebration of Melvin’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell, Kansas, with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating.  Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery.  Military honor guard will be performed by the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240.  Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church or Russell County 4-H Developement Fund and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Ryan Duane Thacker, 46, of Russell, Kansas and formerly of Hays, Kansas passed away Friday, October 14, 2016 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Ryan was born August 4, 1970 in Russell, the son of Duane Lee and Janet Marie (Burghardt) Thacker.  He grew up in Luray and graduated from Lucas/Luray High School.  He then attended Ft. Hays State University where he obtained a degree in Business.

Ryan was an independent Real Estate Agent mainly in the Hays, Kansas housing market.  He has lived most all of his adult life in Hays until 2015 when he moved to Russell due to health reasons.  He loved all aspects of motorcycles and hot rods.  He especially enjoyed socializing with his family and friends.

Surviving family include his three children; Keaton Rozean, Bryanna Thacker and Braxton Thacker all of Hays, Kansas; companion, Jalynn Paulson of Hays, Kansas;  father, Duane Thacker of Russell, Kansas; brothers, Ronald Thacker (Shawna) of Offerle, Kansas, Rick Thacker of Russell, Kansas and Russell Thacker of Hays, Kansas; and  sister, Rachelle Thacker of Russell, Kansas; step-brother, Kelly DePiesse of Russell, Kansas; nieces and nephews, Dusty, Cody, Hillary, Megan, Alexis, Sky, Shelby and Sheldon; and great niece Alayna.  He was preceded in death by his mother.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Luray United Methodist Church.  Burial of ashes will follow at the Luray City Cemetery.  No visitation being held due to cremation.  A Memorial has been established as the Ryan Thacker Memorial Fund.  Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
