Bob “Buns” Schulz, 74, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Saturday, October 22nd. He was born October 30, 1941 to Robert and Bonnie Patti. He was preceded in death by his father who died at the age of 44. His mother, now deceased, later married Bob Schulz who was the only father he ever knew and raised him as his own son.
Survivors are wife, Janice Schulz; father, Bob Schulz, Hill City, Kansas; half-brother, Norman Patti (Toni), Miami, Florida; former wife and mother of his children, Elaine Schulz, Topeka, Kansas; children, Jeff Schulz (Jen), Ypsilanti, Michigan, Lea Anne Schulz Chicago, Illinois, Amy Hasemann (Dave), West Lafayette, Indiana; step daughters, Beth Thomas, Anchorage, Alaska and Penny Vermeul, Richland, Washington; grandchildren, Corbett and Mallory Schulz, Lauryn, Paityn, and Hudson Hasemann; step grandchildren, Dylan and Tessa Vermeul and Molly Tooley (Justin).
Bob served in the United States Army. He was an avid golfer and loved supporting his grandchildren’s endeavors.
Bob chose cremation.
A gathering will take place at Bob and Jan’s home on Wednesday, October 26. The gathering will be come and go from 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

Kevin Roger North, 45, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away Friday, October 21st, at Providence Medical Center, in Kansas City, Kansas.
Kevin was born in Galesburg, Illinois on December 31, 1970, to David North and the late Beverly (Nelson) North.
Kevin lived in group homes in Wichita, Topeka, and Kansas City since 1989. He had the mind of a child and was friendly to everyone he met. Kevin was always ready to give what he had to others.
Survivors include his father, David and step mother, Joyce North, of Salina, sisters, Cynthia Forbes, and her husband Joe, of Cuba City, Wisconsin, Deborah Wild, of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Sandra North, of Jefferson, Wisconsin; step sister, Lorraine Jayne Murphy, of Clay Center, Kansas; step brother Scott Vidrine, of Wichita, Kansas; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Kevin is preceded in death by his mother, Beverly; sisters, Teresa Wilson and Vicky North; as well as his grandparents.
Cremation has been chosen and there is no visitation. Memorial services are not planned at this time.

Cindy K. Atkinson-Gillespie, 59, passed away Monday, October 24th, in Abilene. She was born February 15, 1957 in Abilene, the daughter of Allen L. “Lee” and Joan P. (Reiff) Atkinson. Growing up in Abilene, Cindy attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1975. She moved to Denver in 1979 and managed a collection agency before returning to Abilene in 1996. Cindy had been employed by Bankes Drug Store, Bill’s Texaco and Kolling Pharmacy in Abilene. On April 15, 1998, she was married to Bill Gillespie. All of their married life has been spent in Abilene. Cindy enjoyed gardening, animals, camping and puzzles. She was preceded in death by her father in 2001 and a brother, C.J. Atkinson in 1972. Cindy had been a Past Honor Queen in Job’s Daughters.
She is survived by; husband Bill Gillespie of Abilene; mother Joan Atkinson of Chapman; step-daughter, Lori (Brad) Wilson of Tonganoxie; step-son, Rob (Rhonda) Gillespie of Lawrence; four grandchildren; sister, Sue Zeller and two brothers, Rod (Connie) Atkinson and Mark Atkinson all three of Abilene.
The family has chosen cremation. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 29th, at the United Brethren in Christ Church with Rev. Craig Atkinson officiating. Private family Inurnment will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends 5:30 – 6:30 PM Friday, October 28th, at the Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be made to the Cindy Gillespie Memorial Fund, to be designated at a later date. Dorothy V. “Dot” Stroda, 92, passed away Sunday, October 23rd, in Abilene. She was born January 2, 1924 near Elmo, the daughter of John and Marguerite (Whitaker) Baier. Growing up in the area, Dot attended local schools and graduate from Abilene High School with the class of 1942. On September 5, 1945, she was married to William “Bill” Stroda. They were married for fifty five years living and farming south of Abilene on the family farm. He preceded her in death February 25, 2000.
She had been employed by Duckwall Alco, the ASCS office, Shockey & Landis, Hoffman’s packing plant and Brown Memorial Home throughout the years. Dot loved to cook, bake and spend time with her grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rosemary McDonald and two brothers, David and Paul Baier. Dot was a member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church.
She is survived by: daughter, Kelly Marie Stroda; two sons, Kevin Charles (Bonnie) Stroda and Kent William Stroda all of Abilene; two sisters, Louise “Lolly” Bowers and Joan (Don) Jackson; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The Family has chosen cremation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, October 29th, at the St. Andrews Catholic Church with Celebrant Fr. Mark Wesley and Concelebrant Fr. Abraham Panthalanickal officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Farmington Cemetery southeast of Abilene. The family will receive friends beginning at 5:30 PM with a 6:30 PM Parish Rosary Friday, October 28th, at the Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials in her name be made to the Farmington Cemetery. Milton E. Achatz, 92, died October 23, 2016, at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood, Kansas. He was born September 11, 1924 in Ellinwood, Kansas, the son of Henry John and Rose Koch Achatz and was a lifetime Ellinwood resident. He was a retired farmer and a township maintenance operator for Lakin Township. On November 18, 1947, Milton was united in marriage with Bertha L. Birzer at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, north of Ellinwood. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and Knights of Columbus Council 1187, both of Ellinwood. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Achatz, of the home; 4 sons, John & Bonnie Achatz, Lyons, Charlie & Barbara Achatz, Great Bend, Paul Achatz, Great Bend and Gerald & Glenna Achatz, Great Bend; brother, Bill Achatz, Ellinwood; and sister, Delores Hauser, Ellinwood; 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Lester Achatz; 4 brothers, Elmer, Richard, Tom, and Robert Achatz; 2 sisters, Ada Woydziak and Dorothy Achatz. Bobby “Bob” Gene Cook, 88, of Russell, Kansas, died
at his home on Sunday, October 23, 2016, in Russell, Kansas.
Bobby was born on December 05, 1927, in Monett, Missouri, the son of Samuel Roe and Stella Belle (Weaver) Cook. He attended grade school in Monett, Missouri and graduated high school in Wichita, Kansas. After high school, Bob joined the United States Navy during World War II. Bob moved to Russell, Kansas, in 1946. He met, fell in love and was united in marriage on November 21, 1951, in Russell, Kansas at the old United Methodist Church. From this union Bob and Norma Jean were blessed with a son Tom. Bob was self employed, as a bulk agent for Fina Oil. He was a longtime member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Russell. He was also a member of the Shrine, Masonic Lodge, Elk and Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time with his family and close friends.
Surviving family include his son Tom of the home, sister in-law Kay Lowenstein of Manhattan, Kansas; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Norma Jean on September 17, 2016, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 28, 2016, at the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Russell, Kansas, with Pastor Michael Eurit officiating. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery in Russell, Kansas, with military honors being performed by the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at the mortuary with family to greet guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Thursday evening. Memorials may be given to the Rough Riders or Otterbein United Methodist Church and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
