vet_ffffff3989153_wlppThayne D. “T.D.” Farrington, born July 4, 1925 in Ingalls, Kansas, departed this life on October 25, 2016.

TD was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Edna (Parish) Farrington; his first wife, Mary Lou George, and his brother, Loyd Farrington.

He spent most of his early years in Minneapolis, Kansas, and graduated from Minneapolis High School in 1943. In December 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Following his discharge on April 30, 1946, he attended barber college on the GI Bill. For over 60 years, he worked as a barber in Wichita where he was known as “Bob the Barber.”

TD is survived by his sons, Curtis Farrington (Janine) and Paul Farrington (Lisa); his wife of 23 years, Jean (Heald) Farrington; daughter, Debi Lundquist (Mark); son, Chuck Markley (Arlene); granddaughter, Emma Pullman (Grant); grandsons, Jeffrey Markley (Sophie) and Robbie Markley, and great-granddaughter, Hazel Marie Markley. TD will be sorely missed by his family and a multitude of friends.

Funeral services, 11 a.m., Saturday, October 29 at Southwest Presbyterian Church with arrangements by Downing & Lahey Mortuary West in Wichita. The graveside service will be 2 p.m., Monday, October 31 at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis, Kansas, conducted by Wilson Family Funeral Home in Minneapolis, KS. Memorials are requested in lieu of flowers. Suggested memorials are Southwest Presbyterian Church, Good Shepherd Hospice or Kansas Honor Flights.

3989011_wlppJeane Maxine Hemenway, 90, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016. She was a resident of the Good Samaritan in Minneapolis, and had been in hospice care for several months.

Jeane was born to Leo and Bess Callahan on January 20, 1926 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and grew up in Southeastern Kansas. She graduated from Morehead High School, attended junior college in Independence, Kansas, The University of Kansas, and Prairie Bible Institute in Alberta, Canada. Jeane studied music education and organ performance.

Jeane met Bill Hemenway at the University of Kansas in Lawrence and they married at Danforth Chapel on the KU campus on June 1, 1950. They then moved to Minneapolis where Bill went into business with his father at the Minneapolis Messenger. Jeane became the long-time organist/pianist for the Presbyterian and Community Bible churches, Lions’ Club, and countless weddings and funerals. She was also piano teacher to many Minneapolis and area students. Bill preceded Jeane in death in July of 1995.

Survivors include a daughter, Dixie Robichaud and husband Jon of Blue Springs, MO; son, Bob Hemenway and wife Jill of McPherson, and daughter Carol Hemenway of Burlington, IA; sister Carolene Herbel of Taos, NM; step-daughter, Cherryl Boss and husband Elvin of Minneapolis; step-son Mike Platt and wife Debbie of Wichita; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Also preceding Jeane in death were her brother, John Callahan, infant sister Morene Callahan, and second husband, Bud Platt.

The viewing will be on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 at the Wilson Family Funeral Home in Minneapolis where the family will receive friends from 3-5. Graveside services will be Monday, October 31, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Highland Cemetery in Minneapolis. Pastor Doug Neumann will officiate. Pallbearers will be Andy, Aaron, and Alex Robichaud and Jacob Hemenway, grandsons; John Wilson; Dick Wyatt; and Wayne Reed. Aaron Robichaud, Houston, TX will provide music.      Memorials may be made to the Minneapolis High Alumni Association and can be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P. O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467. The family requests no flowers, please.

3989190_wlppvet_ffffffCarroll D. Somers, 84, Delphos, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the Nicol Home, Glasco.

Carroll was born December 15, 1931 to Robert and Ethel Somers. He served in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War. Carroll worked as groundskeeper for the Delphos Cemetery for 35 years. He took pride it keeping it looking nice. He was also an avid K-State fan.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jennie; his parents; four brothers Cecil, Tommy, Jerry, and Jack; and sister June.

Survivors include his two brothers John (Marcia) Somers and Jesse Somers; three sisters Lulu Kranz, Judy Bloomer (Dave), and Leanna Holt; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 1 at Wilson Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 5-7. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Delphos Museum or the Nicol Home.

7104241_220wGregory Morgan, 52, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016. He was born March 3, 1964 in New Orleans.

He worked for Walmart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James P. and Evelyn E. (O’Neil) Morgan; granddaughter, ShauTavia S.S. Burse.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Morgan; children, Greonna L. Morgan, Gloria Burse-Hutchens, Bruce Burse, John Lee Burse, Anthony Clark Jr., Onnika Parker and Michelle Simmons; sisters, Sheila Morgan, Troy Austin and Pamela Burse; brother, James Morgan; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at St. Johns Missionary Baptist Church, 215 S. Chicago.

hal61024Evelyn M. Hallock, 98, of Salina, passed away Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at Presbyterian Manor. She was born June 21, 1918, to Ira and Bertha Stutzman in Ransom.

Evelyn attended Fort Hays State University and graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University. She was an elementary teacher in both Falun and Smolan. She was a member of University United Methodist Church and was well known for playing the organ and being in the choir.

Survivors are her daughters, Carolyn Wright, of Salina, and Joyce Jacob (Tom), of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister, Mary Louise Morehead, of California; grandchildren, Mandie Cain (Duane), Erin Keller, Scott Jacob (Christine) and Steve Jacob (Sarah); seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rex; and sisters, Ruth Ritter and Frieda Atwater.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Family will be present from 6-7:30.

A celebration of life will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at University United Methodist Church, Salina. A private interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Kent Michael Anderes was born August 5, 1966 the son of Clinton and Marilyn (Baier) Anderes of Elmo, Kansas. He passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the Village Manor in Abilene.
Growing up in the area, he attended Chapman Schools graduating from Chapman High School in 1984. Kent then attended Cloud County Community College for two years. He had been employed by Great Plains Land Pride Division in Abilene for eight years and for several years worked for OCCK in Salina.
Kent never complained about his life. He was a member of the St. Columba Catholic Church in Elmo and loved being with his family. He also enjoyed watching football games, and loved to go to K-State games at Manhattan.
Kent is survived by his mother Marilyn of Hope; sister Sandra and husband Bob Evans of Wamego; brothers Ron and his wife Nita of Hope, Randy and his wife Elaine of Manhattan; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Clinton in 1999.
Mass of Christian Burial for Kent will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the St. Columba Catholic Church in Elmo with Father Mark Wesely as Celebrant. His final resting place will be in the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery near Elmo. A Parish Rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. Cremation visitation in Kansas City will be 6 to 8 P.M. on Sat., Oct. 29, 2016, McGilley Memorial Chapel, Antioch, Kansas City North. Memorial services will be 10:00 am, Fri., Nov. 4, 2016, at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas. There will be visitation for an hour prior to the services on Friday at the funeral home. Graveside prayer and inurnment of ashes in St. Concordia Cemetery, Concordia, Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia and Zion Cemetery, Republic County, Kansas will follow the services.

Fred was born April 21, 1931 in Concordia, Kansas, the son of Roscoe and Stella Lowell of Concordia and a grandson of Fred R. and Anna Lowell, Hollis, Kansas. He attended Fortney grade school and graduated from Concordia High School in 1948. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Kansas State College, Manhattan, in 1952. He was named a member of Gamma Sigma Delta, the National Honor Society of Agriculture and was a member of Scabbard & Blade Military Society. He was a lifetime member of the Kansas State Alumni Association.

Following graduation from Kansas State in 1952 he entered the U.S. Army as a commissioned officer. During the Korean War he served two years as an instructor and Training Aids and Lesson Plans officer, New Developments section, Anti-Aircraft, The Artillery School, Fort Bliss, Texas. At the completion of his two years of service at Ft. Bliss he received a Letter of Commendation recognizing his outstanding teaching ability and innovative instructional materials.

In 1952 Fred married Alice Bogart, daughter of Joe and Celia Bogart of Concordia, Kansas. In the course of their marriage they adopted a son, Bryan, when he was seven days old, and a daughter, Lori, at the age of three weeks. Throughout the years these children brought a sense of family, joy and pride.

Following completion of military service in 1954 and one post-graduate semester of journalism courses at Kansas State, Fred accepted a position as market analyst and writer for the Keltner Statistical Service, Kansas City, Missouri, publisher of The Keltner Commodity Letter, a weekly advisory letter for those trading Chicago grain futures. He held this position for 28 years. He was the author of books on commodity trading from the fundamental analysis perspective. For five years he was an account executive and account supervisor in the Public Relations department of Valentine-Radford Advertising, Kansas City and for ten years he was vice president of Advertising and Public Relations for Stephens & Associates Advertising, Overland Park, Kansas. In this work he traveled over the United States interviewing farmers, ranchers, dairymen and other agricultural interests, preparing their stories for publication in national agricultural journals. He developed many promotional materials and national marketing plans for the introduction of new products to agricultural and animal health markets.

Fred was a member of St. Gabriel Archangel Catholic Church (originally St. Michael’s) in Kansas City for 57 years, dating back to 1959. He coached flag football in the grade school, served as Chairman of the school commission of the first Parish Council, served as parish lay representative to the Diocesan Council, and as lay minister in the parish.

Following professional retirement he worked for ten years as morning manager for gyms and fitness centers in the northland area. For more than 20 years he enjoyed, with his family, a weekend cabin at Lake Stockton, Missouri and he pursued his keen interest in genealogy, preparing a historical family genealogy book and many family histories. He was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and a season ticket holder back to the beginning days in old Municipal Stadium.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lyle and sister, Ramona Busby.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice Bogart; brother in law, Bob Busby of Hutchinson; son, Bryan and daughter, Lori, both of Kansas City; one sister, Dona Renken and husband Garth of Topeka, Kansas; one brother, Dean and his wife Norma of Menlo Park, California; niece, Ann Thiessen and husband Wes Hutchinson, Kansas; nephews, Lance Renken of Topeka, Douglas Lowell and family of Oregon, David Lowell and family of Menlo Park, California, Kevin Lowell and family of Streamwood, Illinois and Randy Lowell and family of Portland, Oregon; as well as many other nieces, nephews, and their families on the Bogart side of his wife’s family.

Pauline Rita (Woodmansee) Brubaker, 91, died October 25, 2016 in Mulvane, KS. She was born January 24, 1925 in Waltham, MA to Alderic and Angeline (Levesque) LaPierre.

Pauline worked in nursing homes for 28 years. She was a certified Dietary Manager. Before coming to Kansas, she worked at Raytheon in Massachusetts during WWII. Her hobbies were playing cards, sewing, crocheting, traveling and fitness. She was a member of St. John the Baptiste Catholic Church and VFW Ladies Auxiliary both of Clyde, KS, and the Clifton Senior Center and Historical Society.

She is survived by her son, Kent L. Woodmansee (Betty) of Greenville, TX; daugthers, Angela G. Mooneyham of Wichita and Leona LaPierre of Caldwell; 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Louis Brubaker of Bavaria, Orin Heitsman of Clifton, and Keith L. Woodmansee of Ellsworth; son, Keith P. Woodmansee; five sisters and five brothers.

No visitation is planned.

Funeral mass: 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 31, 2016 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Ellsworth with burial following in Buckeye Cemetery.

5810c24beefbfWinifred Ann (Winnie) Reed Teeter, Wichita, KS, formerly of Lyons and Halstead, KS, passed away October 24, 2016 in Wichita, Kansas. She was born December 10, 1932 in Lyons, KS, the daughter of Francis L. and Helen J. Reed. She married Max Teeter June 5, 1954 in Lyons, Kansas. He survives. She is also survived by a son, Brad (Sharon) Teeter, Wichita; three daughters, Deborah (Ken) Raney, Wichita; Vicky (Jeff) Miller, Sterling, KS; Beverly (Bruce) Bishop, Wichita; twelve grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brothers, Norman (Sharon) Reed; Max (Janet) Fossey; Dale (Maggie) Reed. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Kimberley Teeter Kurtz; a daughter-in-law Krista Terry Teeter, and a sister, Elaine Fossey Lockwood.

Winifred earned a teaching certificate from McPherson College and taught kindergarten at Junction City, KS before her marriage. Winifred and Max farmed north of Lyons in Rice County for fifty years. Winifred was a member of Grace Community Church, Newton, KS. Along with her husband, she served in missions as one of the founders and board members of Haiti Love and Faith, as well as volunteering with Teen Mission International in Merritt Island, FL. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed everything from doll clothes to wedding dresses to quilts to full-size tepees for Teen Mission. She was a loving wife and mother, and a devoted “Grammy” to her twelve grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She had a strong faith in Christ, and served in various roles in church throughout her life.

Private family graveside service was held October 26, at Lyons Cemetery. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 29 at Grace Community Church, 1600 S Anderson Rd, Newton, KS.
