A Lincoln County man is out more than $1,500 after being scammed over the phone Monday morning.
Salina Police Captain Mike Sweeney said the man whose is in his 80’s, received a phone call that his granddaughter had been involved in a DUI wreck where the other driver had died. He was told to wire money to Jersey City, New Jersey to relieve her of her charges.
The man drove to the Salina Walmart and wired the money. After wiring the money, he thought he was being scammed and tried to stop the transaction, but was too late.
He then contacted Salina Police. Total loss is $1,563.
