Chicken threatened, dog shot, tickets issued

salina-pd-patrol-unit-1Two north Salina neighbors were issued tickets following an incident Wednesday afternoon.

Police Captain Mike Sweeney said officers were called to a mobile home park at 917 N.13th around 4p.m. on a report of a disturbance.

49-year-old Tommy Smith is alleged to have shot a dog owned by 56-year-old Benny Hancock, after the dog tried to get to a fenced up chicken owned by Smith.

Smith reportedly shot the dog in the right shoulder area with a .22 rifle . The dog was taken by the Salina Animal Shelter to a veterinarian for treatment. The dog is expected to recover. The chicken was not harmed.

Smith was issued a notice to appear in Municipal Court for unlawful discharge of a firearm.

Hancock was issued a notice to appear in Municipal Court for allowing an animal to run a large, criminal trespassing,no city license for the dog, and no proof of vaccination for the dog.
