NEWTON, Kan. (AP) — Cullen Grabast threw two touchdown passes in the first half, ran for two touchdowns in the second half and led Osborne to a 38-24 victory over St. Francis in the eight-man Division I state title game.
Grabast finished with 190 yards rushing for the Bulldogs (13-0), who were the North Plains League champions before winning their second state championship in the past four years.
Quinton Cravens had two touchdowns through the air and on the ground for St. Francis, which led 24-22 before Grabast’s late touchdown runs turned the game around.
The Indians (11-1) were playing for their first state championship.
8-Man, Division II State Tournament
NEWTON, Kan. (AP) — Kevin Diederich caught two touchdown passes, ran for two scores and returned an interception for another touchdown to lead Hanover to a 68-22 victory over Dighton on Saturday in the Kansas eight-man Division II state championship.
The Wildcats (12-0) won their fourth state title after falling short in the finals the previous two years, while the Hornets (12-1) came up short in their first championship game appearance.
Will Bruna threw for 234 yards and three touchdowns, and Carter Bruna added four touchdown runs, as Hanover built a 34-14 halftime lead and coasted the rest of the way.
The game was ended by the 45-point mercy rule with 7:35 left.
Dighton’s Tyler Ling accounted for three touchdowns, but he was also picked off five times.
