HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A structure fire destroyed two apartment buildings at the Ridgewood Apartments in Hutchinson early Tuesday morning. Fire crews were called out to 33rd and Garden Grove fire-ridgwoodParkway just after midnight and arrived to find two of the four unit buildings fully involved.
Fire crews had to use ladders to get to the second floor of one unit to rescue a woman from her bedroom. All others were able to make it out safely. The resident who was rescued, and three fire fighters were taken to the hospital for evaluation or treatment of minor injuries. All have been released.
Hutch Fire believes the fire started on the outside of the one of the units and quickly spread to the second complex. Both are a total loss. The exact cause of the fire may never be known, but it’s not being treated as suspicious in nature.
