TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Carter Putz threw for 343 yard and five touchdowns, three of them going to Jafar Armstrong, and Bishop Miege rolled to a 53-21 victory over Buhler on Saturday in the Kansas 4A-I title game.
Landry Weber also had a touchdown for the Stags (12-1), who lost their opener to 6A state runner-up Blue Valley before ripping off 12 straight wins. That included a 52-0 blowout of Basehor-Linwood in the semifinals that gave Bishop Miege a shot at its third consecutive state title.
Bishop Miege roared to a big lead against Buhler (11-2), shutting down the Crusaders’ offense well into the third quarter. By the time Ben Epps threw a 33-yard TD pass to Dalton Smyres, it was 46-7.
It was still a positive step in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Crusaders, whose only other loss came to Collegiate in September.
