EMPORIA, Kan. (AP) — Dan Dawdy threw for 224 yards and two touchdowns, Blayten Tullis kicked the go-ahead field goal with 27 seconds left and Derby beat Blue Valley 17-14 for the Kansas 6A state title on Saturday.
Brody Kooser added 139 yards rushing for the Panthers (13-0), who also beat the Tigers (12-1) in last year’s title game. It was the third championship for Derby and second in four years.
Matthew Dercher threw for 225 yards for Blue Valley, and connected with Harrison VanDyne on the final play of the first half to give the Tigers a 14-6 lead.
But the Panthers stiffened on defense in the second half, and Dercher was picked off by Tanner Igo in the final minute as Derby ran its winning streak to 23 consecutive games.
