SALINA, Kan. (AP) — Travis Thies piled up 261 yards and four touchdowns to lead Pratt to a 48-14 victory over Hayden in the Kansas 4A-II state championship game Saturday.
The Greenbacks (12-1), who were just 4-5 a year ago, were never challenged by their rival from Topeka in winning their first state championship in 21 years.
Pratt, which has dominated teams on the ground all season, also beat defending champion Holcomb in the semifinals, scoring two touchdowns in the final 6:08 to win reach the title game.
Hayden (8-5), which beat Holton in the semifinals, started the season 1-4 before coach Bill Arnold’s team rattled off seven straight wins. But the Wildcats couldn’t slow down the Pratt offense as they tried for their fourth state title and first since 2008.
