cla61204Robert “Bob” Burk Clark, 78, of Salina, passed away Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016 at Salina Regional Health Center. He was born Oct. 31, 1938, to the late James and Mabel (Burk) Clark. He was united in marriage to Teresa Ann Hogan at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina, and they recently celebrated their 56th anniversary.

Bob graduated from Salina High School in 1956 and attended Kansas Wesleyan University. He worked as a police officer for Salina Police Department and retired from Sunflower Bank in 2006. He and his wife, loved dogs, especially their companions, Max and Morgan, miniature schnauzers. In his spare time, he enjoyed golf, woodworking and collecting miniature trains. He was an avid sports fan, always cheering for KU basketball and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Left to mourn his passing are: his wife, Ann, of the home; children, Michael and wife Carol of Jefferson City, Mo., Teresa Shaffer of Lakewood, Colo., Judith and husband Waden Weinzirl of St. Charles, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Linda Clark of Lawrence; sister, Judith Boese of Belle Vista, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his son, James E. Clark and his parents.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with Fr. John Wolesky as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, or Salina Animal Shelter, and are in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth Street, Salina, Kansas 67401.

Edna Irene Andersen, 74, of Downs and formerly of Cawker City, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2016 in Downs. She was born Nov. 7, 1942 to Raymond and Christina (Schmartybach) Hooker. She graduated from Esbon High School. She studied licensed practical nursing at Cloud County Community College and worked as an LPN for nursing homes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Merle and Joe Hooker; and sister Luella Hooker.

She is survived by a son Chad (Robin) Andersen of Salina; a daughter Corinnea Davis of Miltonvale; a brother Ira Hooker; seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. Private inurnment will be later in Mankato, Kansas. Ryan Mortuary, Salina, is handling arrangements.

1754_hakefrances_2016-12-051Frances L. “Corky” Hake, 85, formerly of Abilene, passed away Sunday, December 4th, in Manhattan aftre a brief illness. She was born March 24, 1931 in Salina, the daughter of Charles V. “Vic” and Lola I. (Richter) Gleason. Growing up in Salina, Corky attended local schools and graduated from Salina High School with the class of 1949. On August 22, 1948, she was married to Joe Hake. Most of their married life was spent in Abilene. Corky had been employed by the Salina Journal for eleven years and the Reflector-Chronicle for four years as a reporter. She had been a Past Worthy Matron in Eastern Star and very active with the Retired Teachers. Corky enjoyed painting landscapes and rustic scenes. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Dallas Gleason.
Corky is survived by: daughter, Viki (JD) Horan of Manhattan; son, Conrad (Carol) Hake of Hayward, California; five grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
The family has chosen cremation. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice House. They may be left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.

5847357840919MARION – Fred G. “Fritz” Helmer, age 90, passed away December 5, 2016, at St. Luke Hospital in Marion, Kansas.  He was born November 12, 1926, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, the son of David and Anna (Eberhardt) Helmer.  On October 17, 1948, he was united in marriage to Edith L. Graham.  He owned and operated Helmer’s Service station in Marion; prior to that he worked for Security Oil for over 25 years in Wichita and Liberal.  He was a member of Eastmoor United Methodist Church, was active in leadership with the Boy Scouts, and was a charter member of the Marion Lions Club.  He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and hunting.  He was preceded in death by his brothers:  August, George, Dave, Albert, Harry, John, Godfrey, Will and Ezra Helmer, and a sister Ann Boese.  He is survived by his wife, of 68 years, Edith Helmer of Marion; his sons:  David Helmer of Marion; and Dan Helmer and wife Brenda of Norman, Oklahoma; his daughters:  Debra Thomason and husband Harold of West Des Moines, Iowa; and Deanna Gilbert and husband Royce of Alma; 10 grandchildren:  Anthony Gilbert, Austin Gilbert, Ashley Wurtz, T.J. Thomason, Heath Thomason, Danny Helmer, Joey Helmer, Josh Helmer, Darcy Pease, and Bruce Pease; and 20 great-grandchildren. Leo M. Jantz, 93, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, November 19th, 2016, peacefully at his home.

Leo was born in Tampa, Kansas on November 21, 1922, a son of Susanne “Suzie” (Wedel) and Jonas H. Jantz.

He worked for Multi Community Diversified Services, Inc.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Suzie and Jonas Jantz; his brothers Allen, Ervin and Harold Jantz; his sisters, Rowena Roth, and two infant sisters, Bertha and Alice Jantz.

Inurnment was at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas.

maurice-l-edmonds-jpegvet_ffffffMaurice L. “Maury” Edmonds, 91, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 6:50 p.m., Saturday, December 3rd, 2016 peacefully, at Cedars Health Care Center.

Maurice was born in at his parents home McLouth, Kansas on March 23, 1925, a son of Mable Susan (Lapham) and Linnie Earl Edmonds.

Maury attended grade school, Junior High and graduated from McLouth High School, McLouth, Kansas in 1943. He then attended Kansas University, Lawrence, Kansas where he graduated with his bachelors of science degree in business in 1950.

He was a member of First Baptist Church McPherson, Kansas where he was a faithful member of the YES Sunday School Class and the Church Choir.

Maury served in the U.S. Navy as a Radio Operator in WW II. until 1946 where he honorably served his Country. And then served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

Through the years Maury worked for his cousin Norman Edmonds at his grocery store during his college years, while in Wichita he worked for Mobil Oil Company for 11 years as a personnel director and then as a Manager of Personnel and Safety for Clear Creek and N.C.R.A for 25 years. While living in McPherson and during his retirement he delivered over 70 new busses in all 48 states, Mexico, and Canada for Thor Bus Company, Salina, Kansas.

Maury was a member of the McPherson Lions Club. Maury enjoyed his work, enjoyed watching sports, especially his KU team.

Maurice L. Edmonds was united in marriage to Mildred M. Philo on July 2, 1947, at Topeka, Kansas. Mildred died on June 2, 2014..

He is survived by his children, Susan Proffitt and her husband Gary, of Wichita, Kansas, Scott Edmonds and his wife Sheryl, of Topeka, Kansas, Sara Feeney, of Wichita, Kansas, and Sandra Lolling and her husband Steve, of McPherson, Kansas; his sister, Joyce Mullenix, of Lawrence, Kansas; his 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Dennis Feeney; a daughter, Sheryl Linn Edmonds; sisters, Audrey Edmonds and Charlotte Hamilton; and brothers, Arnold and Lincoln Edmonds.

Friends are invited to call on Friday December 9, 2016 from 3 to 6 with family present from 5 to 6 p.m. at Glidden – Ediger Chapel, McPherson.

Memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10th, 2016 with Reverend Andrew “Andy” Currier officiating.

Private family burial will take place at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas. Military honors will be presented by members of the American Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715, both of McPherson.

She was born November 22, 1957 in Topeka, Kansas the daughter of Donald L. and Imogene (Hale) Butcher. She was a 1975 graduate of Hays High School and received her BS and MS degrees in Political Science from Fort Hays State University. She previously worked at Travenol and Paul MacDonald Chevrolet, and for the last sixteen years was a motor vehicle tax and customer service representative at the Ellis County Treasurer’s Office. On October 4, 1997 she married Bryan Lee Tholen at the First United Methodist Church in Hays. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and the Prairie Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, planting, and tending to her flowers and vegetable garden. She liked scrapbooking, family celebrations and holidays, and spending time with her nieces and nephews. She loved traveling with her friends and sister.

Survivors include her husband, Bryan, of the home, two sisters; Sharon Hamilton and husband Keith of Seattle, WA, and Jamie Malone and husband Jim of Russell, a brother; Dale Butcher and wife Renne of Amarillo, TX, two nieces; Randee Olive of St. John, KS and Hannah Hamilton of Seattle, WA, two nephews; Harris Hamilton of Seattle, and Hadley Butcher of Amarillo, two great nieces; Teixeira Olive and Trexynn Olive, both of St. John, and a great nephew; Tristan Olive of St. John.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Mark Butcher.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Friday, December 9, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, 305 W. 7th, Hays. Inurnment will follow in the Mt. Allen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Thursday at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, and from 1:00 until service time on Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Cancer Council of Ellis County, the First United Methodist Church, or a random act of kindness can be done in Glenda’s memory.
