Jacob Franklin Cornelison Kelley, 71, Minneapolis, died Friday, December 9, 2016 at the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis. He was born April 28, 1945 in Petaluma, CA to J.D. and Bertha (Camenish) Kelley.
Jake attended and graduated from schools in California. On January 12, 1967, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on January 11, 1973 and enlisted in the reserves. Jake and Sue Lucht were united in marriage on June 12, 1984 in Bakersfield, CA. Jake worked as a head well puller in the Oil Fields in California. In 1992, he and Sue, moved to Minneapolis and he worked for Ottawa County Feeders.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Donald “Skip” Kelley; and sister Karen Kelley.
Survivors include his wife Sue, of the home; daughters Michelle Cruz and Jessica Hancock; brother J.B. Kelley; and two grandchildren David Havice and Larae Kelley.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 16 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospitals.

Mark Alan Marcotte, 55, of Salina, Kansas, entered the gates of heaven on Friday, December 9th, 2016.

Mark was born in Salina, Kansas on August 27, 1961, son of Patricia Ann (Gray) Marcotte and William Joseph Marcotte.

He was employed as a Computer Systems Operator at Great Plains Manufacturing, Salina, Kansas for 27 years and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church Salina.

Mark is survived by his mother, Patricia Marcotte of Topeka, Kansas; father, William “Bill” Marcotte of Parkville, Missouri; daughter, Marsha Proulx, and husband Dan, of Ellicott City, Maryland; and sister, Michelle Marcotte, of Derby, Kansas.

Visitation will take place Wednesday, December 14, 2016 from 9:00 am – 8:00 pm at Carlson- Geisendorf Funeral Home with family present from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. The Rosary will take place at 7:00 pm.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, December 15, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Salina, Kansas with Fr. Luke Thielen officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Salina, Kansas.

Sharon Sweatland, 72 of Abilene passed away Monday, December 12, 2016 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. She was born June 20, 1944 in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of William and Myrtle (Wheeler) Jenkinson. She spent her childhood growing up in Kenmore, New York and spent her teenage years in Suffield, Connecticut before moving to Abilene. She was united in marriage to Gary Sweatland July 17, 1965 in Buffalo, New York. Sharon worked as a secretary for the County Attorney and later was the secretary for the Abilene Middle School USD 435. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Abilene, PEO CZ, Book Club, Two O’clock McDonald Girls, Literary League and Beta’s.
Sharon is survived by her loving husband Gary of the home. Two sons: Brian and wife Catherine of Missoula, Montana, and Kevin and wife Sarah of Wichita, Kansas. One daughter: Sandy Foltz and husband Terry of Abilene. Six Grandchildren: Elisabeth, Jacob, Erik, Annie Sweatland and Jonah and Jayce Foltz. One brother: Denny Jenkinson and wife Holly of Staatsburg, New York and one sister: Sandra H. Nuccio of Enfield, Connecticut.
Memorial Service for Sharon will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the Presbyterian Church in Abilene with Pastor Roland Slater officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Abilene City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:30-7:30 P.M., at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be given in Sharon’s name to the Hospice of Dickinson County or to the F.H. Camp at Browns Memorial Park. MARION – Tom “Perch” Reid, age 64, passed away December 10, 2016, at his home at Marion County Lake. Tom was born with a head of red hair and a spirit to match on July 6, 1952, in Newton, Kansas to Leo and Neva Reid of Florence. He earned the nickname Perch at around age 5, when his love of the water and exploits at the Newton pool led the older kids to proclaim that he swam like a fish!

After graduating from high school in 1970, Tom attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, where he played football. After his dad became ill in the early ‘70s, Tom managed his folks’ service station. He and his younger brother Kevin built a special bond during this time. Tom mentored Kevin in many ways and coached several of his sports teams.

Tom met the love of his life, Bev Backhus, in 1976, and they married on October 22, 1983, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tampa, Kansas. Tom became a union ironworker in the early ‘80s and during his career participated in the construction of buildings in and around Wichita at sites including McConnell Air Force Base, Fort Riley, Boeing and Old Town.

Tom was an avid outdoorsman, with a special love for fishing. He fished many lakes in Kansas and Texas with friends. Tom also enjoyed the trips that he and Bev took to island paradises including Hawaii, the Cayman Islands and the Virgin Islands.

Tom treasured spending time with family and friends. He was funny and gentle and loved to tell stories and jokes. He was a favorite of his nieces and nephews.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Neva and Leo Reid, and brothers Michael and Jim Reid. He is survived by his wife, Bev Backhus Reid; three siblings and their spouses: Reilly Reid and wife Susan of Florence, Kansas, Kristin Reid Parrino and husband Steve of Dallas, Texas, and Kevin Reid and wife Tracy of Maize, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. Tom’s friends and family will miss him dearly.

Visitation with family will be held from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.  The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Florence, with the Rosary being recited at 10:00 a.m., and the Funeral Mass beginning at 10:30 a.m.  The Committal Service will be held at 1:30 p.m., at the Tampa Lutheran Cemetery in Tampa.

Betty Sue Nightengale, 82, of Temple, TX, passed away Saturday, December 10th, 2016 at Baylor Scott White Hospital, Temple, Texas.

Betty was born in Dallas County, Texas on December 7, 1934, a daughter of Bessie Mandette (Jones) and William Norman Coffman.

Betty graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1953.

She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church Temple, Texas.

Through the years, Betty was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. Later she worked for several business as a secretary and was a telephone operator for the Scott & White Hospital. Temple, Texas for more than 35 years.

Betty enjoyed working, shopping, traveling, her cat, loved to read and spend time with her family.

Betty Sue Coffman was united in marriage to Elmer J. Nightengale on October 16, 1955, Canton, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Canton, Kansas. Elmer preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children, Mark Nightengale and his wife Bahia, of Alexandrea, Louisiana and Debra Nightengale-Anderson and her husband John, of Temple, Texas; her brother, Michael George and his wife Sue, of McPherson, Kansas; her sister, Colleen Reed, of Hutchinson, Kansas; her 3 grandchildren, Matthew Sheola, Corwin Nightengale, Bethany Sheola; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, William Coffman and Bessie Lancaster; her husband Elmer Nightengale; a brother, John Paul “Sonny Boy” Coffman; and a grandson, Justin Nightengale. (birth Colleen, Betty, John Paul “Sonny Boy”, Michael)

Friends are invited to call on Friday, December 16th, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Glidden – Ediger Chapel, McPherson.

Funeral service will be held at Glidden – Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17th, 2016 with Reverend Andrew “Andy” Currier officiating.

The final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas.

Roy R. Allen, 71, of Hutchinson and formerly of Lawrence and McPherson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2016, surrounded by family at his home in Hutchinson. He was a retired firefighter where he served 30 years with the Lawrence Fire Department. He then worked as a security guard for Securitas at the NCRA Refinery.

Roy was born on January 5, 1945, in Ottawa, KS. On June 9, 1981, he was united in marriage to Cheryl I. Morlan in Lawrence, KS.

Survivors include: wife, Cheryl of the home; daughter, Laura (Kevin) Raasch of Lawrence, KS; step-sons, Jason (Alisha) Reese of Lawrence, KS and Michael (Carolyn) Reese of Lawrence, KS; sister, Kay (Gary) Koehler of Baldwin, KS; 15 grandchildren, Matthew Reese, Eric Reese, Mallory Reese, Christy Fisher (who was raised by Roy as his own), Jordan Reese, Austin Klebenstein, Jenna Reese, Jackson Childs, J.T. Reese, Brett Goetz, Tyler Goetz, Shane Goetz, Jessa Goetz, Chelsie Vasquez, and Sam Vasquez; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Beulah Allen; brother, Sonny Allen; and sister, Darlene Jamez.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 15, 2016, at First Baptist Church, 600 East Marlin, McPherson, with Rev. Andrew Currier officiating. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Ruth “Ruthie” A. Richards, 60, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 12, 2016, at The Cedars, McPherson. She was a security guard at Hospira, Inc. and a bookkeeper.

Ruthie was born on July 13, 1956, in Denver, CO, the daughter of Cecil F. and Ruth May (Campell) Richards. She graduated from Burr Oak High School in Burr Oak, KS and Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, OK.

She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson and the Christian Motorcyclists Association.

Survivors include: sisters, Nancy (Richard) Wakefield of McPherson, KS and Ellen (Marion) Gray of Oskaloosa, IA; brother, Irwin “Rip” (Candy) Richards of Elk Point, SD; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, & great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Patricia Howell.

The memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 16, 2016, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Glover officiating.

Sharon Louise Woods Kalivoda was born June 12, 1939 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Vernon and Velma (Louder) Woods. She passed quietly from this life on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Republic County Hospital in Belleville, Kansas after a battle with cancer.
Sharon was the oldest of three daughters, raised in Colorado and Kansas, graduating from Courtland High School with the class of 1957. In March of 1958 she married Garry Moravek of Munden. They lived on Army bases in Missouri, Texas and Georgia before settling in Kansas. Three girls were born to this union which was later dissolved. She worked as a clerk at Swoyer’s IGA in Highland and at Nondorf Grocery in Courtland. She was also a bookkeeper for Boettcher Fertilizer in Courtland and the former Belleview Manor in Belleville. She retired from the Republic County Treasurer’s Office in the fall of 2004.
On August 16, 1980 Sharon was united in marriage to Dewayne Kalivoda and lived on the family farm north of Cuba. She took great pleasure working with Dewayne on the farm and helping with the livestock. Throughout her life she enjoyed bowling, camping, gardening, polka dances, social time with friends and attending the many activities of her family.
Sharon was a member of the Courtland United Methodist Church, Western Fraternal Life – ZCBJ Czech Lodge of Munden, TOPS, Red Hat Society, American Legion Auxiliary in Concordia and Veterans Wives of Cuba serving as an officer in many of these organizations and was currently President of Veterans Wives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewayne’s parents George and Helen Kalivoda, and sisters Peggy Richmond and Marilyn Sothers.
Sharon is survived by her husband Dewayne of the home; daughters Joanne (Joey) Welch of Wellington, Kansas; Cindy (Lynn) Moon of Burlingame, Kansas; Nancy (Craig) Clark of Beloit, Kansas; stepchildren Brad (Delorie) Kalivoda of Narka, Kansas and Carolina Weltner of Wichita, Kansas; brothers-in-law Maurice Sothers of Courtland, Kansas and Gary Richmond Sr. of Fountain, Colorado; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Eleven AM, Friday, December 16, 2016 Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel, Belleville, Kansas conducted by Pastor Kathy Aeillo and Kathleen Marsicek. Interment will be in Tabor Cemetery, rural Munden, Kansas. Memorials may be given to the family’s choice.
Friends may call on Thursday from 1 PM to 8 PM at Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas.
