Mary Jane Whitehair, age 65, of Derby, formerly of Abilene passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita. She was born August 19, 1952 in Abilene the daughter of Clinton and Edna (Zimmerman) Whitehair.
Mary Jane graduated from Abilene High School in 1970 and received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Wichita State University in 1995 and her Advanced Nurse Practitioner degree from Wichita State University. Mary Jane worked for Wesley Medical Center, St. Joseph’s Hospital, was a public health nurse for several years before retiring.
She is survived by her sisters, Donna and her husband John Berger of Abilene, JoAnn and her husband Brian Sheehy of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Susan and her husband Chris Zeller of Windom, Kansas, Karen Whitehair of Irvine, California and Peggy Whitehair of Lone Pine, California. Her brothers, Steve and his wife Peggy Whitehair of Calumet, Illinois, Greg and his wife Jolene Whitehair of Hays, Kansas, Phil and his wife Ellen Whitehair of Abilene and Mark and his wife Kelly Whitehair of Wamego, Kansas, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Fred and Dennis Whitehair and her sister Jeannette Whitehair.
A Parish Rosary for Mary Jane will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 23, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Derby followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with Father Joe Eckberg as Celebrant. Graveside services for Mary Jane will be 4:30 p.m. Friday afternoon at the Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery in Abilene with Father Abraham Panthalanickal. Parish Rosary will be 5:00 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene with family receiving friends following until 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Catholic School or Donor’s Choice and sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410.
