Thursday proved to be a beautiful night to cruise downtown Salina, and a number of drivers participating in the Kustom Kemps of America (KKOA) 38th Leadsled Spectacular did just that!
The KKOA Sundown Cruise, which kicked off the four-day spectacular, normally travels up and down Santa Fe, but because of streetscape and waterline construction, the custom cars — and a number of custom bicycles — traveled a different route. Nonetheless, spectators gathered along the route to view the vehicles.
The leadsleds will be in Oakdale park through Sunday, and a variety of activities are scheduled throughout the event, including the following.
- Vintage Home Decor Marketplace, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. today and Saturday in the 4-H building and Kenwood Hall. Admission is $1.
- 12th annual Run What Ya Brung Drags from 5 p.m. until dusk in the East Crawford Ballpark area. Spectator admission $10 per person for persons age 13 and older.
- The “King of Drag Racing,” Big Daddy Don Garlits, is scheduled to be on hand with his famed Swamp Rat XII from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. today through Sunday in Oakdale Park and from 5-8 p.m. today at the East Crawford Ballpark Area.
- An auction for hotrodders, kustoms, and projects is scheduled for noon today at Salina Auto Auction, 2845 Centennial Road.
- One Night with Elvis and Buddy Holly Rave On Tribute Concert Featuring Johnny Rogers & the Spinout Band and Spinette’s Special Guest M.C.
