Friends of the Salina Animal Shelter (FSAS) sent out a big shout out Wednesday to all the people who have contributed aluminum cans to help support the organization.

In a Facebook post thanking people for their contributions, FSAS noted that they had raised more than $5,000 this year through sales of donated aluminum cans.

FSAS has three aluminum can drop-off locations in Salina: the parking lot at Ace Hardware, 321 S. Broadway; the west side of the parking lot at the Central Mall, 2259 S. Ninth; and the parking lot of Orscheln Farm and Home, 360 N. Ohio. Persons wishing to donate aluminum cans need not crush them but are asked to put them in large trash bags.

Funds raised will be used for a variety of needs including to provide food, supplies, and medical care for animals in foster care; transportation expenses to send animals to rescues; sponsorship for shelter cats’ spay and neuter costs; and providing pet medical expense assistance to low-income families throughout the community.
