Salina Police are investigating how a 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 ended up on fire several blocks from the owners’ home.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Friday that at approximately 12:30 a.m. Friday, a police officer on patrol in Lakewood Park, 1323 E. Iron Avenue, found a pickup completely engulfed in flames in the far east parking lot of the park. Forrester said the officer ran the plate number and discovered that the 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 belonged to Scott and Dawn Christensen, 244 Des Moines.

According to Forrester, Scott Christensen was at work and Dawn Christensen was at home when contacted by police after the burning truck was discovered. Additionally, the truck keys were hanging on a hook in the house, Forrester said.

The truck was valued at $16,000, Forrester said. The fire caused an estimated $2,000 in damage to the asphalt parking lot, he added.
