Saline County Commissioners during their regular meeting on Tuesday are scheduled to hear requests from Community Corrections to pursue two grants, as well as hear a request from the Road and Bridge Department for rural road shoulder construction.
The televised public forum portion of the meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. in room 107 of the City-County Building, 300 W. Ash. A time for citizens’ comments is scheduled toward the beginning of the meeting.
Community Corrections is requesting the commission’s permission to submit a grant request for $28,500 to the Dane G. Hansen Foundation. Should the grant request be approved, the Restorative Practices to Reduce Incidents of Misconduct and School Removal grant project would be used in USD 305 to allow youth misconduct to be addressed through mediation. It would run November 1, 2018, through October 31, 2021, according to information in the commission meeting packet.
Additionally, Community Corrections is seeking approval to pursue a $66,205 grant from the Kansas Criminal Justice Coordinating Council to continue support for the Drug Court Program by funding one Drug Court Intensive Supervision Officer.
Community Corrections also is seeking commission approval for a contract for IT services.
The Road and Bridge Department is scheduled to ask commissioners to approve a bid award for aggregate shoulder construction along Kipp Road from Magnolia to Kansas Highway 4 and along Old 40 Highway from the Salina city limits to Simpson Road. While multiple bids were sought, only one for $159,961.60 from APAC-Kansas, Inc., Shears Division was received.
Saline County Administration is scheduled to ask for commission approval to discontinue using the services of MuniCode to publish the Saline County Codebook and instead publish the codebook on the county website. By doing so, staff estimates a savings of $1,500 to $3,000 per year.
Immediately following the public forum portion, the commissioners are scheduled to meet in a study session in room 107B of the City-County Building. During this study session, County Administrator Rita Deister is scheduled to give her weekly update for no more than 30 minutes and the commissioners are scheduled to meet in an executive session to discuss a non-elected personnel matter for 30 minutes.
