Property, personnel policy among county agenda items

A request to purchase property, several personnel policy issues, and a Road and Bridge Department update are on the agenda for the Saline County Commission meeting Wednesday morning.

The weekly meeting was moved to Wednesday since the county is closed Tuesday in observance of the New Year’s Day holiday.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday in room 107 of the City-County Building, 300 W. Ash. A time for public comment is scheduled near the beginning of the meeting.

Commissioners are scheduled to consider a request by Rural Fire District No. 1 to purchase an approximate 1,250-foot property adjacent to the district’s property in Gypsum for $11,700.
According to the request for action in the commission meeting packet, the reason for the purchase “is to clear up the existing area, eliminating a previously unknown utilities easement through our existing property. This purchase will allow for better placement and configuration of the proposed new fire station building and also mitigate existing and any future impediments to the District’s plans for the new building.” The Salina County Rural Fire District No. 1 Board supports the purchase, which would be funded by money in the district’s budget.

Commissioners also are scheduled to hear from Marilyn Leamer, human resources director, concerning six updates/changes to the county personnel policies and procedures manual. Those include the following.

  • Policy 20.18 Performance, Grievance, Disciplinary Action and Termination Appeal Procedure
  • Policy 30.03 Employee Performance Appraisal
  • Policy 30.27 Correction Officer Retention Incentive program
  • Policy 40.15 Expense of Travel for County Business
  • Policy 40.40 Mobile Device Acquisition
  • Policy 40.48 Mobile Device Acceptable Use policy

Additionally, commissioners are scheduled to hear an update from Road and Bridge Administrator Darren Fishel.

Following the regular meeting, the commissioners are scheduled to meet in a study session in room 107B of the City-County Building.

The study session will begin with a radio infrastructure discussion with Emergency Management Director Hannah Stambaugh. Rural Fire District officials and Salina City Commissioners also have been invited to participate. According to the study session agenda, the discussion is anticipated to begin at approximately 9:45 a.m. and run for two hours.

Following the radio infrastructure discussion, the commissioners are scheduled to hear the weekly update from County Administrator Rita Deister. That part of the study session is scheduled to take 45 minutes.
