The City of Salina recently surveyed residents, commuters and interested persons on what should be the priority of other possible actions that can be taken to slow traffic down on North Ninth Street and make it safer for pedestrians.

According to information from the city, the eight-question survey was completed by 1,016 people. The following responses were included in the results.

• Nearly 93 percent of those responding indicated that they did not live on Ninth Street.
• More than 61 percent of those responding indicated that they use North Ninth Street on a regular basis. “Regular basis” was identified in the study as being more than four times per week.
• Having North Ninth be a four-lane roadway narrowly edged the three-lane roadway option 43.41 percent to 43.11 percent. Making North Ninth a two-lane roadway came in at 13.48 percent.
• Making the North Ninth speed limit 35 mph garnered 55.47 percent of the responses, with 45 mph coming in second (28.28 percent) and 30 mph coming in third (16.26 percent).
• More than 80 percent of the respondents indicated that if crosswalks are added, flashing lights are necessary at the crosswalks.
• More than 70 percent of respondents indicated that crosswalks should be added to North Ninth.
• The intersections with Hamilton (44.02 percent), Antrim (39 percent), and Euclid (38.4 percent) were the top choices for crosswalk locations.
• Nearly 72 percent of those who responded indicated that that they did not support narrowing North Ninth at the intersections in order to narrow the distance pedestrians had to cross the street.
