Burglary results in loss at building being scrapped

A burglary in the south industrial area resulted in the loss of more than $8,000 worth of tools, office supplies, and metals.

Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan said Friday that sometime between 3:30 p.m. on January 11 and 8 a.m. Wednesday, someone broke into the building and a trailer at 402 E. Avenue B. The building formerly housed Metlcast Products, Soldan said.

Archie Holmes, Salina, and Barry Yaffe, Pryor, Oklahoma, who were scrapping out the building, reported a number of items missing, including the following, Soldan said.

  • Toolboxes
  • Hand tools
  • A plasma torch
  • An HP printer and miscellaneous office supplies
  • Spun copper and hard brass
  • Milwaukee equipment, including work lights and a cutoff saw

The total value of the stolen items was estimated at $8,150, Soldan said. Additionally, $200 in damage was done to the door of the trailer.
