Two teens were injured in a vehicle rollover accident Thursday afternoon east of Mentor on South Ohio Street.

Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan said Friday that Braden Valentine, 17, of Salina was northbound in the 8000 block of South Ohio Street in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix when he lost control and the car rolled into the east ditch, coming to rest on its top. Valentine was able to get out and kick out a window so his 13-year-old passenger could get out, Soldan said. Deputies were dispatched to the scene at 4:31 p.m. Thursday, he said.

Valentine received minor injuries, but refused treatment, Soldan said. His passenger complained of back pain and was transported to Salina Regional Health Center, Soldan said. Both were properly restrained, he added.

Valentine was cited for unsafe speed for conditions, which in this case was a gravel road, Soldan said. He explained that the citation doesn’t mean that Valentine was driving at a high rate of speed, just that the speed he was driving did not allow him to maintain control of the car on the gravel roadway.
