Vaughn William “Bill” Hanson, 87, of Lenexa, formerly of Salina, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Westchester Village, Lenexa. Mr. Hanson was born in Mentor, KS April 20, 1932 to Earl and Roberta Hanson.

He is a 1950 graduate of Salina Sacred Heart High School. On July 30, 1952 Bill married the love of his life Ramona (Vap) Hanson. He served in the U.S. Army 1952 to 1954. Bill retired from Union Pacific Railroad and was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Cathedral.

He enjoyed working outdoors and was a big college basketball fan. Bill was an avid gardener and donated much of his produce to the Salina Food Bank and shared with family and friends. He was active in the Salina Moose Lodge where he perfected an amazing chicken fried steak. Also, Bill was a regular member of the Salina YMCA.

Bill was an incredible father, husband, and grandpa. He was surrounded by his family as he went home to be with God. He is survived by his children, Terence “TJ” Hanson (Susan), Kimberly Fine (Howard), Lisa Clincy (Simmie Tyrone); 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona “Mona”; daughter, Dana Welch; brother, Dan Hanson; and parents, Earl and Roberta Hanson.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2019 with a vigil and rosary service at 7 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th St., Salina.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 28, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Lunch to follow at Sacred Heart Cathedral immediately after the internment.

Memorials may be given to the Salina Food Bank.
