CONCORDIA — After a 2-1 week that featured an upset of previously number three nationally-ranked Johnson County Community College, the Cloud County Community College volleyball team has ascended to their highest ranking of the season by coming in at number 12 in the lastest NJCAA Division II Volleyball Top 20 Poll.
Picking up a season-best 60 points, Cloud County climbed three spots from last week to jump ahead of Grand Rapids, Kirkwood, and Glen Oaks who were all ranked ahead of the T-Birds last week before stumbling down the polls this week. Only three of last week’s top 20 teams are still in the same ranking as Parkland and Coffeyville still hold the top two spots in the poll while Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference foe also held steady at number seven. Johnson County fell two spots to number five while Fort Scott dropped one spot to six, and Cowley moved up one spot to number 10 as the KJCCC sports six of the top 12 teams in the nation.
This upcoming week will see the T-Birds take part in five contests, beginning Wednesday night in KJCCC action at Hesston College at 6:30 p.m. The weekend will see Cloud County travel to Great Bend to take part in the Barton Community College Classic, where the T-Birds will tangle with Iowa Western, Pratt, Barton, and Labette to kick off the final month of the regular-season.
