NWS: Counties in our area in higher flood threat zone

North-central Kansas is included in the higher threat of flooding area forecast by the National Weather Service (NWS).

According to NWS, the threat of flooding between Tuesday and Wednesday is highest across central Kansas, with the threat decreasing across southeast Kansas.

Flooding of poor drainage areas, low water crossing, and some rivers and streams is probable in the highest threat areas, NWS noted. Flooding is possible but not as likely or widespread in the lower threat area.
Rainfall amounts will average from one to two inches over most of the area, but small areas of two to four inches are likely, NWS indicated. Those living near streams or rivers in the higher threat area are urged to monitor forecasts frequently and be prepared to move to higher ground if warnings are issued or flooding is observed.
