Naming rights, landfill equipment, and an executive session concerning asbestos found at Fire Station No 2 are among the agenda items for the Salina City Commission’s Monday meeting.

Commissioners are scheduled to begin with a 2:30 p.m. study session in room 107B of the City-County Building, 300 W. Ash. The topic of the study session is an update concerning the Emergency Radio Communication System. A time for public comment concerning the study session is scheduled for 3:45 p.m.

The commission’s regular meeting is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. in room 107 of the City-County Building. A time for public comment is scheduled near the beginning of the meeting.

The commission is scheduled to conduct a public hearing concerning the naming rights for the Salina Municipal Golf Course. The commissioners are considering a resolution to name the future pavilion at the golf course, 2500 East Crawford Street, as the Joe Milbradt Pavilion.

According to the commission meeting packet, Joe Milbradt was a longtime golfer at the Salina Municipal Golf Course who died on Dec. 20, 2014. Milbradt’s estate included a donation to the First Tee Chapter in Salina to “help construct a facility that would benefit the youth golf community, the Men’s Association and the general public. The proposed project that has come out of this is a pavilion that will (be) funded through part of Joe Milbradt’s donation, funds raised by the Men’s Association and budgeted funds through the Muni budget for this project. The First Tee Chapter and the Men’s Association and the Parks and Recreation Staff would like to name the pavilion after Mr. Milbradt,” the commission packet information note.

According to background information about the project, funding for the pavilion will be as follows.

• $20,000 donation from the Men’s Association
• $65,000 from the First Tee Association (which is part of the Milbradt donation)
• $45,000 from the Buildings & Facilities 2019 approved sub-CIP account.

The pavilion is to be a 1,925 square-foot, open air, multi-use facility with basic electrical that will be able to be enclosed with translucent shutter doors, the meeting packet information noted.

Other items on the Salina City Commission for Monday include the following.

• Hear the second reading Ordinance No. 19-11017 changing the name of a street in the Interstate District Southwest of I-70 Addition from Coachlight Lane to Bhakta Court.
• Approval of the project budget and resource allocation for the Smedley Family Surgical Center.
• Authorize the mayor and city manager to jointly sign a letter communicating to the United States Department of Transportation the City of Salina’s preferred airline selection under the Essential Air Service program.
• Consider Resolution No. 19-7754 authorizing the mayor to execute an agreement for the sale and purchase of landfill equipment with Foley Equipment Company.
• Consider Resolution No. 19-7755 authorizing the purchase and installation of fire suppression systems on landfill compactor and dozer equipment with Keller Fire & Safety.

Additionally, the city commissioners are scheduled to meet in executive session “to discuss a potential claim by the City arising from the detection, isolation, and cleanup of asbestos materials in the basement and basement stair well of Fire Station No. 2 with special legal counsel, Ilene Munk, via telephone, based upon the need for consultation with an attorney for the public body which would be deemed privileged in the attorney-client relationship,” the meeting packet information noted.
