CONCORDIA — History continues to be made by the Cloud County Community College volleyball team as the T-Birds have broken into the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Top 10 by coming in at No. 10 in the latest poll released on Monday.
The three spot move comes amid a 2-1 week by CCCC last week, falling to number two ranked Coffeyville Community College in four sets before bouncing back to defeat Southeast Community College and previously ranked number 10 Highland in a triangular match on Friday evening. Cloud County earned a total of 76 points in the poll, and was one of the biggest movers in this week’s poll. Each of last week’s top seven remained among the top seven as the only change would see Fort Scott and Catawba Valley switch spots at number five and six with the Greyhounds now pushing into the top-five.
Three of the top five spots in the poll belong to Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference schools as the KJCCC has an NJCAA best six schools ranked in the top-20 as Coffeyville remained at number two, Cowley remained at number four, Johnson County remained at number seven, and Highland fell three spots to number 13.
With the T-Birds climbing into the top-10, Wednesday evening’s home match with number-five Fort Scott will now pit top-10 opponents against each other inside Arley Bryant Gymnasium for a 6:30 PM first serve. The two schools are a combined 45-9 this season with seven wins over top-20 opponents this season as the KJCCC East Division race enters the final three weeks of the regular season.
