Three minor earthquakes that struck eastern Saline County and western Dickinson County Monday night were the most recent of nine temblors that have hit the two counties in the past five days.
Seven of the nine quakes were south of Solomon.
The strongest of the nine quakes was a 2.9 magnitude quake that struck just south of Solomon on the Saline County side of the county line at 9:48 p.m. Monday. According to the Kansas Geological Survey (KGS), an earthquake of this magnitude is at the lighter end of being “felt indoors by many, outdoors by a few, at night some may awaken; dishes, windows, doors disturbed; motor cars rock noticeably.”
The earthquakes, beginning with the most recent, are as follows, according to KGS.
Monday
- A 2.8 magnitude quake that struck slightly more than a mile southeast of Solomon in Dickinson County at 9:55 p.m.
- A 2.5 magnitude quake that struck slightly more than a mile south-southeast of Solomon in Dickinson County at 9:50 p.m.
- A 2.9 magnitude quake that struck just south of Solomon on the Saline County side of the county line at 9:48 p.m.
Saturday
- A 2.3 magnitude quake that struck slightly southeast of the intersection of South Holmes Road and East Farrelly Road southeast of Salina in Saline County at 4:36 a.m.
- A 2.2 magnitude quake that struck more than three miles southeast of Solomon in Dickinson County at 3:35 a.m.
- A 2.2 magnitude quake that struck slight more than a mile south-southeast of Solomon in Dickinson County at 2:57 a.m.
Thursday
- A 2.1 magnitude quake that struck approximately 2.5 miles south-southwest of Solomon in Saline County at 5:39 p.m.
- A 2 magnitude quake that struck just southeast of the intersection of South Woodward Road and East Mentor Road southeast of Salina in Saline County at 4:25 p.m.
- A 2.4 magnitude quake that struck about 1.5 miles south of Solomon on the Dickinson County side of the county line at 3:36 p.m.
