The public is invited to celebrate the completion of Heusner Elementary School’s 2014 Bond work on Tuesday, October 25, at 6:30 p.m at the school at 1300 Norton Street. Project completion will be commemorated with a ribbon cutting, student performances, tours, art viewing and dedication plaque.

The evening offers everyone an opportunity to see Heusner’s improvements as well as the new art elements made possible under the advisement of Salina Arts and Humanities.

Heusner’s new artwork, a mural titled the Golden Tree of Knowledge, was created by artist Debbie Wagner. She integrated pictures created by staff and students that depict what their school means to them. The tree represents Heusner Elementary standing strong and its branches symbolize teachers and staff. The circular designs on the branches reflect the variety of activities that are part of the educational experience at Heusner Elementary.

The brief ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. with tours of the new spaces to follow. Heusner Pride Patrol and Student Council officers will be on hand for the ribbon cutting and kindergarten students will present a pumpkin poem. Fifth grade students will perform in recognition of the new storm shelter. Everyone is welcome and the event is free.

For more information, contact Heusner principal Lori Munsell at 785-309-4200.
