Oil Tanks Damaged by Early Morning Fire

FireAn early morning fire southeast of Salina caused extensive damage to three oil tanks.

Saline County Undersheriff Roger Soldan said three oil tanks owned by Scott’s Well Service of Roxbury, caught fire just after 1 a.m. Wednesday. The tanks were located in the 2100 block of E. Schilling Road near Johnson Sand Company.

Rural Fire District #6 responded to the fire, which was initially spotted by a Salina Police Officer.

The cause of the fire has not officially been determined, but it may have been sparked by lightning from an early morning thunderstorm passing through the area, according to Soldan.

Damage to the oil tanks has been estimated at $20,000.
