Dr. Kempton was nominated for all the hours and work he puts in for the Veterans Appreciation Day observed each year in October.
Dr. Kempton was born in Guam and raised in Pratt. While growing up, he spent a lot of time with his grandfather in Concordia who owned a liquor store. Many veterans would gather at the store and share stories about their time in the military.
A couple of years ago, Dr. Kempton decided he wanted to honor veterans with more than just ceremonies on Veterans Day. He began organizing an event where veterans could get together and socialize which is how Veterans Appreciation Day began. It’s held on a Saturday close to the middle of October, and starts with a parade in Downtown Salina that concludes at the Masonic Center where there is a dinner, auction, and dance.
Dr. Kempton is a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge #60, Master of the Calendonia Lodge #459, a 40-year member of the Kansas Chiropractic Association, and Master Instructor of the Neurological Relief Center Technique.
For nearly 40 years, Dr. Kempton has been a chiropractor in Salina, taking care of the health of generations of families. His patients have ranged in age from just a couple of hours old to over 100 years old. He also hosts a weekly radio show on KINA Sunday mornings where he shares information on chiropractic care. The Kempton Family Wellness Center is located just off Ohio Street on The Midway.
