PITTSBURG, Kan. (AP) — Mill Valley took advantage of a missed extra point by Goddard in overtime, scoring a touchdown and converting its own point-after for a 35-34 victory Saturday in the Kansas 5A state championship.
Brody Flaming threw for 200 yards and five touchdowns, including a 10-yard pass to Evan Rice in overtime, as the Jaguars (9-4) capped a remarkable turnaround following four losses early in the season.
Goddard (11-2) forced overtime when Blake Young scored from 1 yard out with 4:10 left in regulation, then converted a 2-point conversion to knot the game at 28-all.
The Lions got the ball first in overtime and Blake Sullivan hit Jordan Cooke for a touchdown, but the missed extra point proved to be costly.
