Grass Fires Keep Fire Crews Busy Over Weekend

Several grass fires kept rural fire fighters busy Friday through the weekend in Saline County, but only one of the fires can be directly link to fireworks.

There were three fires on the 29th, 2 were started by sparks from farm equipment.

One fire that burnt about 20 acres of wheat stubble near an oil rig and oil storage tanks was caused by fireworks. That was in the 3600 block of E. Cloud about 9:30pm Friday night.

On Saturday the 30th, about 3pm a fire believed to have been started by farm equipment burnt about 200 acres along the Saline/McPherson county line on Coronado Heights Road. Fire units from both Saline and McPherson counties put out that fire.

About 6pm Saturday in the 100 block of W. Shipton, a fire that may have been caused by fireworks burnt a small area of grass.

Then about 9:30 pm Saturday night, a group of people fishing at a pond in the 10800 block of E. Kingman Road dug a small fire pit to cook some hotdogs, and a spark from the fire started a small grass fire.

No one reported injured in any of the fires and damage estimates in all the fires reported to be minimal .
