A man who was shot in front of a south Salina home in early October has been arrested and now faces possible drug charges.

Salina Police Captain Mike Sweeney said Rachad Austin, 25, was arrested Monday as a result of a search warrant and investigation.

Austin was shot by an unknown gunman while he was standing on the front porch at 3209 Royal just before 10:30 p.m. on October 5th. He exchanged gunfire with the suspect and was hit during the gunfight.

He was transported to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment of a gunshot wound to his upper torso.

Shortly after the shooting, investigators executed a search warrant at the home after detecting a strong odor of marijuana.

Sweeney said several bags of marijuana packaged for sale were found inside the residence. Investigators also found a bag of a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine as well as several digital scales.

Austin was booked into the Saline County Jail on several requested charges including possession of marijuana and cocaine with the intent to sell within 1000 feet of a school and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Sweeney.
